I was referred in November of 2008. I was told I would be invited for an interview. I had to call several times before finally getting an appointment. When I arrived at the Brussels office, I was made to wait for an hour, although I was only 15 minutes early. I was greeted by a quirky man who had a Putin-esque look about him. Perhaps it was the steely eyes. It turned out that he was the regional head of sales. Halfway during the interview, a woman walked in (who later turned out to be the very-mediocre acting director of the Language Center). I was asked if I minded if she sat in on the interview. Naturally, I agreed. She sat behind me for five minutes or so before slinking out. I was told to pretend my interviewer was a student and teach him the word "various." I said that without knowing the context--level, background, how much English he already spoke--it would be difficult. I was instructed not to worry and do it anyway. So I tried, and after a stuttering start I was interrupted with the line "See, you are not a teacher. We will teach you how to become a teacher." There was a meandering conversation after that, and although I found the entire experience a bit strange, I was still convinced by Berlitz's reputation as a world-class institution and was confident I would like the job.
