I applied online. The process took 1+ week. I interviewed at Bento for Business (Layton, UT) in Mar 2020
Interview
Had an initial phone screening, then a longer phone discussion followed by three hours on-site. The team I met with were very engaging. It was a collaborative and open discussion with lots of constructive dialogue and opportunity to ask direct questions.
I was very excited about continuing the process and had many signals that the feeling was mutual. They asked for work samples and references and ended up calling all of the references I provided.
About a week goes by and the hiring manager goes dark. He does ultimately text that they are working through the process with a promise to follow up soon. I follow up after another several days and get an impersonal text that they are moving forward with another candidate but that he, the hiring manager would call to provide more specific feedback.
At the same time corona hits the US hard. Have tried twice to follow up with no response. I understand the macro events that have significant impact and the hiring process can result in not being selected. I respect that. Unfortunately I was left with many unanswered questions and no follow up as promised. Disappointed as it seems like a compelling product and company.

Situational questions on how I would approach various aspects of the job
I applied in-person. I interviewed at Bento for Business in May 2019
Interview
The VP of Engineering contacted me via LinkedIn and we set up a time to chat. After the chat, he gave me 2 questions to solve at home. Very easy problems, I resolved the problems together with test cases, without cheating. After I submitted the solutions, I realized the solutions are out there online and in a book!
Then I am more convinced that my approach is correct, very thorough and detailed.
After two weeks, I did not see they even click on my solutions I put in my github.
Then, this guy Jonathan just emailed saying they would like to pass on me.
Hey, if you are not serious on hiring and just wanted to waste people time with not so challenging questions, please don't reach out to me!
I applied online. The process took 6 weeks. I interviewed at Bento for Business (Chicago, IL) in Dec 2018
Interview
After submitting my application, I contacted one of their devs for coffee and to chat about Bento. A week or so later, I had a 30 minute interview with VP of Engineering in SF.
Then a one week take-home code challenge. They got back to me about a week later to let me know they were interested in doing a two-hour technical google chat (video) interview. Talked with two engineers, one in SF, one in Chicago. First were front-end questions, questions about quirky JS things, CSS and other front end things. Then a backend interview discussing structuring REST APIs, etc.
A few days later, they invited me on-site for a seven-hour interview with several folks in Chicago, as well as several in their SF office. This involved some pair-coding, white-boarding, review of my code challenge, logic puzzles, and cultural/behavioral questions.
A few days later, they asked me to speak with their CEO for around 40 minutes.
