I interviewed at Benefitfocus (Charleston, SC) in Jun 2018
Interview
Exchanged emails and then had a good conversation with recruiter by phone. He arranged a phone call with hiring manager promptly. That call seemed (at least from my perspective) to go well. I was supposed to hear back from company but never did; the hiring manager said next step would be further phone calls with more of the team. Followed up with thank you notes after interviews. Followed up with HR a week or two later to check status, but did not get courtesy of a response. Tried following up again in another couple weeks - and again no response from HR. I would have been a remote employee, and it's understandable that they may have found and gone with a local candidate, but some sort of follow-up from HR or the hiring manager would have been appropriate/basic courtesy. Interesting company - but disappointing interviewing experience.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
The interview phone calls themselves - with both the recruiter & hiring manager - were cordial/professional. The calls were more opportunities to learn about the position and discuss work history. There were no "gotcha" type questions (such as "how would you solve this type of problem") - more conversational.

Interview
After several interviews I was essentially verbally offered a job, then heard nothing. I had been away on a long vacation so I followed up via email upon my return and they quickly scheduled another meeting. Things seemed to be back on track, but then I was completely ghosted. I figured being ignored twice was a bad sign and I never followed up.
The recruiter was fantastic though. He was not the issue.

Interview
I was set up for an interview that cancelled at the last minute. I tried to reschedule for a week but didn’t hear a response. When I copied other recruiters and employees of Benefitfocus I received an email back and we set up another interview. The recruiter didn’t show to that interview.

Interview
I was contacted by someone from their Talent Acquisition department. They scheduled a 30 minute phone interview with the hiring manager. I was looking forward to making somewhat of a personal connection with the hiring manager, but immediately they started rattling off questions one-by-one. After allowing me 10 minutes to ask my own questions, the hiring manager ended the interview and said they would get back to me within a couple of days. A week later, I reached out to the Talent Acquisition contact, and received an automated response that I did not get the job.
Pretty horrible experience. They might as well have sent me a list of questions to fill out and send over. There was no soul to their communication skills. I'm guessing they either weren't interested and still "gave me the chance", and/or had another candidate in mind already.
I hope not all of Benefitfocus' interviews are like this. The hiring manager was pretty cold and impersonal.
