I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Barnes & Noble in Aug 2014
Interview
Applied online, and was contacted by the hiring manager about a week later. After a brief phone screening in which I proved I was interested in books and was not an idiot, I was asked for an in-store interview. Atmosphere was very relaxed, and everyone was very nice. A few days later, I was asked to fill out information for a background check, and a couple days after that I got the job.
Pretty simple, they asked a lot of retail questions and how I would choose to create a personalized table to present new books. The hardest part is getting the interview in the first place

Question 1
Q: How would you deal with a customer coming up to you if you were in the middle of doing something else?
Interview process was pretty straightforward. They asked me about my past experience and how I could apply that as a bookseller. They also took me through the store and had me analyze the displays and shelves, telling them what themes I saw. That was probably the hardest part.
They ask you to describe a scenario regarding picking out a book for a customer. And to specify the contents of the book and genre. It was a pretty laid back interview.
