It is a two stage interview for new client managers. It starts with a more general interview with two senior members of the client department. The questions include:
- tell us about your background
- why do you want a job at Baillie Gifford?
- why do you want this role?
- what skills have you developed that suits it?
At this stage they are just trying to find out if you’re interested in the role, can communicate effectively and have people skills that translate well to the role. The mood and the feel of the conversation are as important as what you get across.
The second stage is a more intensive day of interviews involving a presentation to a panel on a specific investment opportunity of your choice (split half and half in the presentation and half in more general interview questions), an informal ‘coffee catch up’ with two employees (essentially a test to see if your real character comes out and they don’t like it) and lastly a review of an article and discussion of that article with a senior partner. From that they make the decision.
