      Human Resources Specialist/Analyst Interview

      4 Nov 2010
      Anonymous interview candidate
      San Antonio, TX
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at BD (San Antonio, TX) in Oct 2010

      Interview

BD came off as extremely organized and in unison from the beginning, starting with the online application on Taleo. They outsourced recruitment (screening) for this staffing project to a company called Right Thing, Inc. that was handling many of the slots for the new shared service center in San Antonio, Texas. Phone interview + behavioral questioning went well over the phone and Right Thing, Inc. scheduled me for the on-site interview(s) with BD in San Antonio. I arrived at their make-shift facilities (not their permanent office) and they at least had a good set up for teaching candidates about BD, its history, products, culture, values and employee benefits. First interview I had was with two senior level HR managers who were quite pleasant. The second round immediately thereafter was with a lower leve HR manager and another person that only went by a first name as if being a member of the Clandestine Services, no mention of full name, function, division or even a business card. These last two quite uneventful and asked some rather tedious, by-the-book behavioral questions that I feel could have been prepared a bit better. That last group came off as too cold or secretive to be giving a good reputation of BD to candidates and future incumbents. Interviews wrapped up and they said 7-10 days for an answer. Fourteen+ days pasted with no answer and finally I called their candidate service line (in-house). The candidate service rep said asked for the position I had applied for and then asked me what my current job is at BD. For some reason, her records show me as a current employee. I explain to her that her records are incorrect and she says I have various other positions to interview for still (over the phone). So she schedules me for phone-ins from someone else. I wait for the phone-ins and the woman says that I don't need to interview over the phone anymore and that I should just say which jobs at BD I am interested in and they will push me forward for consideration- being that I already interviewed. So she says call the outsourced recruiter that I originally spoke with on the first job. So I talk to Right Thing, Inc. and they give me a long, senseless story of how I passed background checks but there are no notes as to why I was not actually hired in the end. Right Thing, Inc. calls the BD person on-site to find out but that person has no information either. So Right Thing, Inc. says give them some time and they'll get back to me, however, asking me to also consider roles in Accounting also. So I apply for the jobs completed outside of my background and no call or acknowledgement whatsoever from Right Thing, Inc. Finally I got a call from an internal recruiter at BD for a different position and they said they wanted to phone screen me. I agree to it and schedule the appointment. A BD employee calls me and tells me she doesn't have enough time to conduct a full conversation. Then calls me back to say she has time, but can't access my file in Taleo and needs to reschedule to days later for the phone-in. So that is where I am at right now. Becton Dickinson has some serious problems with their recruitment process - possibly because they have a new vendor, Right Thing, Inc. Regardless, it has put a huge stain on their image to myself, my family, my friends I have spoke with this about, and even a few BD employees I know overseas. It is just embarassing to see that their workforce is almost aged to retirement and they are running around like headless chickens during the recruitment process. I wouldn't be suprised if they have a high turnover in the first year or two of operations in San Antonio merely due to their lack of preparation, coordination and communication with stakeholders both internal and external. Needless to say, I am calling anybody else from BD or Right Thing, Inc. as they keep messing up with each chance they get to screw their heads on. Amazed that they have such dedicated and loyal employees.. recruitment must have been different before. Going for interviews with Cardinal Health and KCI this week instead. Eager to see how they compare to BD's disasterous recruitment function.
