Interview
A Christmas job opportunity was posted on the window during the hiring period. I submitted my resume directly to the manager and was emailed for an interview a few weeks later. The interview was very casual. I met the manager and we went outside and sat in a communal area in the mall.
I applied online. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Australian Geographic (Sydney) in Oct 2016
Interview
I applied online via Seek. Less than a week later I was invited to a group interview. The email stated that the interview would take an hour.
There were about twenty interviewees in my session. The managers from the various stores were present as well as a HR representative.
First we were asked to complete an application form indicating our availabilities and our preferred stores. Once, we were led into the interview room, we were asked to split into groups of four or five. After the initial icebreaker question, we were asked to complete three tasks as a group.
For the first task we were given a number of products from the store and some wrapping paper. The task was to wrap and unwrap the products as quickly as possible.
The second task required us to partner up and make a 30 second pitch to sell one of the products to our partner.
The third task required each group to produce and perform a skit advertising Australian Geographic. We were allowed to use the products as props.
Throughout the tasks the managers walked around and observed our teamwork skills.
The whole process took about forty minutes, much shorter than indicated.
