The person that was supposed to interview me was not there when I arrived, so the marketing manager filled in for him and she was completely unprepared. The interview portion went fine but she did keep telling me she prefers to do things herself and will often redo the current graphic designer's work. Then she sprung it on me that she wanted me to do a quick assignment. She gave me no design brief and no verbiage until I asked for a few words from her. The laptop she gave me to work on was so slow it took forever to do anything. They did not even have a full size monitor. I quickly designed together but told her I would make some improvements (if I had a better computer). She let me know that she had seen some people do the same work but they took 4 hours instead of 15 minutes (which seemed like she was giving me a compliment). She also told me she would call me the next day to let me know if I had the job, but it seemed positive by how much information she was giving me about the company and she also asked me about my availability.
She did not call me the next day, and then I emailed her the day after that and still no response. I finally called the initial person that contacted me for the phone screening 2 days after that and he let me know they needed someone with more online experience. I have been a designer for 11 years. I'm pretty put off by the whole experience. I guess I should have kept my mouth shut when I told them my mom likes their clothes, because she seemed to take offense at that. I also asked if their target demographic was Caucasian women because all their clothes models are white, this also seemed to put her off. I also told her I would need a full sized monitor, and I don't know if that went over well either. It's hard to believe that a big company like this does not provide proper equipment. The marketing manager seems like a control freak and far too sensitive.
