      Recruiting Interview

      10 Jan 2019
      Anonymous interview candidate

      Application

The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Asana (San Francisco, CA)

      Interview

Interview Training is probably the one feedback I have for Asana. Given the active participation on here and the background experience of the Asanas, I expected a better dialogue in our interview meetings. The experience was great up to the day of onsite. I can say that Asanas have clearly figured out what they're about (Mission) and how they want to do it (Vision). They are in the process of figuring out who they are. Given the background of the people I met I thought the experience could've been better. Although they do ask for permission if writing notes on laptop is okay, I though the constant typing and reliance on the computer was a lackluster. It went from dialogue to Q&A type of setting. There wasn't really a deep conversation, just answer and they'll listen and type away. Eye contact was minimal and though I wasn't sure if they were chatting with someone via Slack or really writing all those notes from their listening skills. That's not engaging at all. Every one of them did the same. To add to it, they asked very similar questions so they wasn't much opportunity for discovery even though I met with a lot of people. By the 5th person, I think I became mechanical and exhausted of the same questions. This is a great company -- i feel it. They want to do good. They got the process down for sure but the skills (soft skills) is what's probably needs more developing. This is an organization to keep an eye out on because they're slowly nailing everything down.

I appreciate that you sensed the passion for our mission when you interviewed with a few members of our team, and I want to thank you for sharing your feedback about the overall experience. We strongly believe that the interview is a time for quality discussion and evaluation on both sides, and engagement is critical for that — we value your time, and we want to show it. I'm sorry that this did not come out in the interviews that you had. While we've made some big strides in how we evaluate candidates, ensuring a fair and unbiased process, we have work to do on the candidate experience side. I appreciate you sharing so we can better enforce these values to our interviewers and continue to improve our candidate experience. - Kayla Vatalaro, Head of Recruiting

      Application

I interviewed at Asana (Vancouver, BC)

      Interview

Everyone I met was lovely and the interviews were structured as more conversational, which was a plus. My only critique is having someone do 5 interviews and then sending a generic two sentence rejection email was a slap in the face. It was something the interviewers and I discussed in my interview about sending more personalized rejection interviews and the importance of candidate experience, and that is how they reject people? It left a really sour taste in my mouth - will never even attempt to interview here again & don't recommend to others.

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Asana

      Interview

Initial screening call with the recruiter. 5 stages of remote interview with members of the team and leadership in Ireland and the US. 4 Interviews arranged to be back to back in one day. I waited 2 weeks after the final interview with no contact. I reached out to see if there was an update and was told there would be by the end of the week. 2 weeks later I still hadn't been given an update. 4.5 weeks after the final interview I was emailed to say I was unsuccessful. The recruiter asked for availability for a call to give some feedback but after providing some times I never got a response. The recruiter did not reply to the email or give me a call or any feedback. I was rushed through the process at a great pace but after the interviews were complete there was no contact at all. Really poor candidate experience. Personally the worst experience interviewing I have ever had based on the lack of communication.

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at Asana

      Interview

To be honest I was approached by a new hiring manager at Asana, about a recruiting opportunity. It was very unclear if it was for Business Ops/Sales or Marketing recruiting, seemed like a hybrid of both. I was never given a job description (strange!) but went through the interview process. The questions felt pretty standard, I was surprised we did not go into more detail around sourcing and strategy. I probed more on DEI, as I heard that was a big focal point for Asana, but I didn't really get any answers other than that there was a new Diversity and Inclusion Manager so TBD? It seemed like they were in a bit of a rush to hire someone perhaps as there was talk around Asana IPO'ing soon. The whole process was a bit underwhelming and disappointing, I had heard such good things about Asana but coming from talent acqusition, the experience was pretty poor.
