Interviewer was friendly, but I felt she brought up compensation too soon (on the very first interview). She threw out a range that was lower than what I am currently making.
I emailed her letting her know that I had decided not to pursue the opportunity further, but thanked her for her time.
To my surprise, she seemed almost desperate to know why I had decided to pass on the opportunity. I told her that the compensation was too low for what I was seeking, to which she replied "who knows where your compensation would have fallen".
I would the interviewers at this firm to 1) not bring up compensation right away so you can first assess how much your candidates are actually worth 2) if you do decide to bring up compensation early on to filter out candidates, don't be surprised if a few of the candidates leave.
