I was waiting in the reception area for my job interview for an entry-level position. There was one staff person leaning over the reception desk and reading the news over the shoulder of the person at reception. They were laughing about an article about religion and mocking a ritual for that religion as being ludicrous.
I walked out of the office without speaking to anyone and I did not cancel my appointment.
To continue with the process would have been a waste of time-- I didn't want to work in such an intolerant environment, especially since the entire concept of the organization is tolerance.
To speak up about why I was no longer interested would have put me in an even worse place than I was by listening to them.
I didn't owe them anything.
