      Manager In Training Interview

      14 Mar 2016
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Clackamas, OR
      Declined offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 days. I interviewed at American Income Life (Clackamas, OR) in Dec 2015

      Interview

If you haven't been job-searching long enough to see how frequently this company posts essentially the same job listing, with various degrees of sales pitches and various degrees of professionalism, you won't necessarily know what you're getting into until you are in the interview and seeing some red flags. I had a nice pre-interview conversation by phone with a HR manager after I had submitted my resume by email. Then, I arrived at the interview a couple days later only to discover that this HR manager, who had said she would be there to lead my interview, was out of the office, and the executive assistant did not have record of my interview having even been scheduled. Another person was there waiting for his interview, and I was brought in to the office along with him for a joint interview, with no acknowledgement as to why made to this other individual and no apology to me for their error. The manager who lead the interview told both the other applicant and me some supposed reasons why he had selected us to come in. I almost called him on it; the office had no record of my interview, he had not seen my resume, and I still can't get over how he thought his glowing comments of me seemed genuine. I was offered a position at the end of the interview, but the other application was as well. The other applicant was extremely introverted, and I sat somewhat in disbelief. This is a sales position that eventually will lead to a sales position with maybe some management of lower-level employees. I think "management" means hiring/interviewing, like what I was going through. I guess you are supposed to want this position badly, and I just wasn't buying what he was selling. I almost felt guilt-tripped for having major concerns about the job and about how people make a living without being a cut-throat salesman.

      Declined offer
      Positive experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 days. I interviewed at American Income Life in Jun 2022

      Interview

They talk more than you do and they take all of your questions in the beginning of the interview and wait until the end to answer them. This isn't really an interview but more of a sales pitch. They are trying to sell you on joining their pyramid model. They want you to become a "manager in training" meaning every sale you make, your manager gets a cut of.. then when you become a manager you have to recruit more people to sell under you. It's ridiculous that they treat this like an interview. They don't care who you are, they just want you to sell so they can make money off of you. The job is also 100% commission, they don't offer base salaries.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

What did you like about your last job? What questions do you have? Tell me about yourself Questions about how much money you need to make to pay your bills - so they can try to sell you that you can make that much money

      Manager-In-Training Interview

      Anonymous interview candidate
      Omaha, NE
      Declined offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied through a staffing agency. I interviewed at American Income Life (Omaha, NE) in Aug 2020

      Interview

Not at all what I thought the job was. They purposefully hide what the job is until you get there... it’s quite ridiculous and unprofessional. It’s insurance sales... the company tries to market towards people looking for customer service or management positions.

      Manager In Training Interview

      22 Mar 2019
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Arlington Heights, IL
      Declined offer
      Neutral experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at American Income Life (Arlington Heights, IL) in Feb 2019

      Interview

A three-step interview. Had a quick one-on-one, followed by a group interview, followed by another one-on-one. They don't really explain what you do until the last interview. I didn't find out it was a commission only job till the last interview. During the group interview they do an overview of everything and make the job sound amazing due to the money, but it's just another door-to-door sales job at the end of the day. If you're not into sales, don't bother with this company.
