      Flight Attendant Interview

      27 Aug 2016
      Anonymous interview candidate
      San Francisco, CA
      No offer
      Neutral experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 months. I interviewed at Alaska Airlines (San Francisco, CA) in Aug 2016

      Interview

Applied: 5/22/16 Invited for Video Interview: 6/8/16 Completed Video Interview: 6/9/16 Invited to F2F: 7/25/16 F2F: 8/24/16 Hard to review this experience. I found it both positive and negative. The process over-all I enjoyed (except for the length of time.... 7 hours is too long). I thought it was organized and the representatives were warm and welcoming. I liked how they had a member from HR, Inflight crew and Training sitting at each table with us to answer questions. By the time you spoke with HR, you really didn't have any questions to ask. Which brings me to the part I didn't like.... The group interview and time spent sitting around to socialize was nothing compared to the 2:1 interview. While the flight attendants were friendly, HR was not. It was more of a fake friendly. I thought I was having a great conversation at first but then it started to feel like an interrogation, with them questioning my motives for interviewing and passively suggesting for me to keep my current job with the "great benefits". I can make professional decisions for myself, thank you. I was offended and insulted that they would presume to know what's best for me instead of respecting that I had to lay my dream of becoming a FA on the side for years with a "career" that was never my passion. No one was hiring in 2003 when I first sought it out - whatelse was I supposed to do? I mean, we all have to work to survive right? And then, one of the interviewers literally quizzed me on something as if it was Alaska specific but it was general for the position regardless of the airline (see question below). Initially, it made me feel like I failed at studying for a test I didn't know I was having. Until I just accepted that for whatever reason they were trying to trip me up to find reasons to weed me out. Ugh... after this session, I knew I didn't get the job. I thought the group interview was fun - not stressful at all besides the fact you wanted to present yourself in the best light. And interacting with the other candidates in-between interviews was really fun, too. The best group I've come across this far in my FA journey. So over-all..... good and bad experience. Doesn't affect my opinion of the company as I think the non-HR people were really great and would be nice people to work with.
