      Strategic Analyst Interview

      13 Aug 2024
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Positive experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Afscme in Feb 2024

      Interview

Received a phone call from someone in D.C. that had reviewed my resume on a job posting board and encouraged me to apply for a Strategic Analyst position at AFSCME headquarters in D.C. in January of 2024. I was promptly called for an initial phone screening and a zoom interview was scheduled. The interview was moved once by AFSCME due to scheduling conflicts. I didn't feel like the interview went very well and that they were looking for a specific kind of experience that I didn't have, so I didn't think much would come of it. Within approximately a week I received an email saying I was being moved to the next level of consideration as a candidate, and that I needed to submit a written, timed assessment. I was given two hours to complete the Organizing and Field Services Department's Strategic Analyst Quantitative and Campaign Strategy Skills Assessment, which consisted of a quantitative section, a bonus question, and a campaign strategy/writing section. I feel with the allotted time given, what I put together was decent. After a few weeks, someone reached out and said they were going with a candidate with more specialized experience, but that they wanted to find a home for me within their organization, and had passed my information on to AFSCME Council 31 in Illinois. The interview experience I had with AFSCME on the national level was positive, however, the experience with Council 31 was terrible- I will save those details for my review of them specifically.

      Question 1

Someone comes to you and says there are some employees at X hospital that are interested in organizing a union; as a strategic analyst, where would you start with that request?
