I applied through university. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Affymax
Interview
it was straight forward. Telephonic was followed by a team interbiew of 2 scientists and 2 associates. They asked general interview questions such as why this company, Your future plan, how did u hear about us. What interests you? How are your chemistry lab skills. How are you with large programmable lab instruments.
I was a consultant for this company so I got to know everyone. This place was really friendly. There really was no interview process. It was pretty much do I want the position or not. I realize it was much less money for a permanent position, but it was more important to work with such a great team. From the time a decision was made to actually receiving the offer it took a while. That was the only drawback as it was difficult to make a decision.

Question 1
There was no really difficult question since I was offered the position when I was consulting.
I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Affymax in Nov 2012
Interview
Initially the process was well organized with a structured schedule for the interview and the folks I spoke on the phone were articulate, interesting and reasonable.
On the interview day, met the Exec Director, followed by the Finance directors, Project Management and the current Manager of IT. Here's the deal - the place is in a need for a major overhaul. They've recently implemented a software package that has more issues than you can count on all your fingers and toes, many times over. The job wasn't' looking too appetizing at that point, but I kept my interest alive through the process.
What I found most unprofessional was that I never heard from the company after the interview. No calls, no emails indicating what they had decided etc.. So watch out for this.
