As a matter of policy, we ask our hiring managers not to discuss compensation with prospective candidates too early in the process. This would have been better discussed with the recruiter assisting you through the process.
Compensation is certainly an important conversation to have and our recruiters are more than happy to have these discussions openly and transparently with you.
However, we hope that your focus with our hiring managers would be about the role, the company, your experience, and aspirations. When conversations sharply focus on compensation right out of the gate, it can be a bit jarring for everyone and place this in contrast to the goal of getting to know one another better.
Perhaps, in this case, we could have done a better job of framing our goal for the conversation.
