I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at Adoreal (Chicago, IL) in Nov 2025
Interview
The interview process was unusually long and increasingly unclear, which ultimately raised several red flags.
What began as a standard interview expanded into multiple rounds with overlapping stakeholders, with limited internal alignment on the role or hiring criteria. As the process continued, expectations evolved without clear communication, including requests for substantive strategic work before any offer or clarity on scope.

Question 1
A project required meaningful strategic thinking that appeared comparable to work normally performed by someone already in the role. While framed as part of the evaluation process, it was not accompanied by clear parameters.
Thank you for the thoughtful feedback. We're sorry the process felt disorganized and lacking in clear direction.
We do use a strategic exercise to evaluate senior candidates, as the scope and complexity of the role requires us to see thinking in action. We recognize, however, that without clear parameters and proper framing, that ask can feel unreasonable.

Interview
3-stage interview process, one hour with the hiring manager, one hour with the CEO & Co-founder, then a mobile app project where they ask you to evaluate, in-depth, their current mobile application (a great way to get hours of free labor). In the final stage, you then present your findings to the hiring manager, the CEO/co-founder, and the President/co-founder. However, there was a clear reason why they waited until the final round to bring the President/Co-founder into the interview process - Unprofessional is a nice way to describe his behavior. After investing about 15 hours into the job application process prior to the final presentation, he interrupted and insulted througout, exhibiting a complete lack of decorum. He had clear “smartest guy in the room energy”, and wanted to make that known by belittling the interviewee. However, all it showcased was incompetence, insecurity and his lack of logic and reasoning skills. In the end, after over 15 hours invested, I received an automated denial email. I wouldn’t have accepted the offer anyway, but shows the kind of people and company they are. You reap what you sow, stealing people’s ideas after assigning them “a project” and then insulting them throughout the final interview is a great way to build horrible karma.
