Interview Process Needs Significant Improvement
I recently interviewed for a leadership position at Abra Dental and felt compelled to share my experience in the hope that it leads to positive changes.
Pros:
- The company has potential for growth and impact in the healthcare sector.
Cons:
Interview Etiquette: The interview panel was incredibly rude and interruptive, which left a negative impression from the start. It is crucial to maintain professionalism and respect during interviews.
Disregard for Experience: Despite my extensive professional background, the interviewers seemed uninterested in discussing my relevant experience. Instead, they focused on questions that did not align with a leadership or partnership mindset, such as “Tell us why you’d be a good fit for the role” versus more insightful inquiries like “Tell us who you are.”
Lack of Flexibility: The company’s insistence on a rigid 9-5, in-office work culture, coupled with the demand for night and weekend availability, suggests a lack of progressiveness. This approach is not competitive in today’s job market, which values flexibility and work-life balance.
Blame Culture: The discussion of the previous employee being a “bad hire” was unprofessional and contradictory, given earlier statements about their departure being family-related. This indicates a blame culture rather than a supportive environment.
Project Management: The absence of effective project management platforms in 2024 points to a lack of accountability and efficiency within the organization.
Interview Conclusion: The interview ended abruptly and rudely, further solidifying my negative experience.
Recommendations for Leadership:
To attract and retain top talent, Abra Dental needs to adopt a more progressive approach. This includes offering competitive benefits packages, flexible work arrangements, generous PTO, and fostering a culture of mutual respect and accountability. It’s essential to understand that the hiring process is a two-way street, and respect for interviewees is paramount. Reflect on whether the same questions and treatment would apply if the candidate appeared different from what is typical in your leadership positions.
In summary, there is significant room for improvement in how Abra Dental conducts its interview process and manages its work culture. Embracing these changes could prevent a revolving door of employees and position the company as a more attractive place to work.

Question 1
How many subsidiaries did you work with in your previous job?
Very straightforward interview process with phone and in-person interviews. They allow you to shadow the current doctors to get a feel for how the clinics operate. Working interview was not required. Everyone was very friendly and responsive to my questions.
