      Junior Front End Developer Interview

      22 May 2014
      Anonymous interview candidate
      New York, NY
      Declined offer
      Positive experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at 1stDibs.com (New York, NY)

      Interview

I was first contacted by a head hunter trying to place me out of college. She set up a phone interview with the head of the front end team to screen my skills. We went over some of the code on my github, I was asked a couple very simple JavaScript questions (how do you iterate over the attributes of an object?), after which we set up a date for an onsite interview. The onsite took place about a week later and was roughly 4 hours long, beginning at 2pm. Their offices are beautiful and everyone was very friendly and welcoming. I interviewed with 5 people, three engineers, the head of the front end team, and the CTO. The first three interviews were mostly technical, dealing in Backbone.js, jQuery and JavaScript. The fourth interview was more of a cultural talk with some light code optimization. In the final round with the CTO, I learned more about the company and was asked some brain teasers (how can you measure out 4L of liquid given only a 3L and a 5L container.
