Pros
It was just a whim. I was from the medical field, a licensed Physical Therapist. Just came off from MOA because i applied for a Healthcare job and on my way home via then Roosevelt LRT ( Bulacan is my hometown) , I saw VXI & applied. Not knowing it was the start of my journey in this company. Became a part (and last wave 50) of Vonage CSR - and it was an eye opener for me because it was my 1st time working for a BPO company. enjoyed the perks, the camaraderie, the pressure that came from the job. Sadly, that account (which was the bread & butter of VXI) had its sunset so i was transferred to Vonage Account Management / Retention. And the saga continued - got transferred to a pioneer account ATT Green then U-verse as TSR. What a joy that i got to experience different settings and job opportunities. And from there was part of QA for 5 years then finally as part of the pioneer team of US Support under the umbrella of Talent Acquisition (ongoing for 5 years now). So what is the moral of my story? That its a never ending learning if you want to...that BPO is another world wherein you can excel at what you do best. Just enjoy the perks, be grateful for the things that gives you food on the table and best of all, happiness regardless of the intricasies of the job you have. Staying where you are, striving and giving your best every single working day is always a challenge - and you need to have a strong mind and a heart that says YOU CAN DO IT.
Cons
The BPO Community is a diverse world - you will meet (undoubtedly) many classes of personalities, types of work and pressures (like you are in a pressure cooker). Endless graveyard shifts, situations that will test your mental acuity, patience and faith in yourself. Yes, it is a high paying job however it comes with a price. If you wont be able to develop a work - life balance (as what we call it now) then you will definitely develop migraines (from all the KPIs, customers and co-workers) and health issues. Right now, its more important to take care of your mental health as you battle your inner demons because of the work. Its a dog eat dog world. As we always say, it is definitely a survival of the fittest and not for the weak of heart. To stay this long, i guess my advise would be NOT to embroil yourself from the drama , and have a sense of detachment. After all, it is work, not your life.
