Pros
The flexibility to work from home was great. There was a lot to learn, and when things were slow, there would be about 10–15 minutes of downtime. The benefits were solid, and the leadership was supportive. Even though I sometimes felt overqualified for the role, the mission and values aligned with mine, so I felt like I was part of something meaningful.
Cons
Over the years, I survived four or five RIFs (reductions in force) and I met someone who was rehired after a RIF. Since I was being trained as a Subject Matter Expert in PV Design, I gained many skills, multitasked effectively, and assisted coworkers with their calls while handling my own. I didn’t think a RIF would affect me—it felt so impersonal and showed that no one was truly safe. My friend was even demoted from their title in the last RIF.
