Pros
Good pay and benefits/vacation time. Overtime is often available if you want it. Guaranteed to make 40 hours. shift differential is good.
Cons
Building gets very hot, and is extremely loud. No scheduled breaks on your shift other than lunch. Parking is always an issue. You are often running machines with 10 minutes of down time in between. Yet they dont allow headphones, youre not allowed to read books or look at your phone. Supervisors want high production yet if you are in a hurry and make a lot of mistakes, you are screwed as an operator. You are taught to follow every procedure exactly, yet the procedures and instructions are often wrong and nobody follows them. Its very confusing for a lot of people. Most people with seniority in that building do the bare minimum all day and its allowed. But supervisors will push the production requirements on new people and give others a pass. Its not suprising when you see that most new people dont last long. If you dont want to be buddy buddy with your supervisor and the senior members of your department, it can be a very difficult place to work.
