Pros
The hours at my franchise were fairly flexible, if needed. I could come in an hour late and was able to just stay an hour later to make up the time/money. The location I was at was a top location. With this, management was pretty good and attentive with both members and staff. My main manager was nice, understanding, and constantly looking for ways to improve the gym and his staff. Not just how well we were doing our jobs but the connection that we had with each other. Good team building. Though, I'm sure this drastically varies from location to location.
Cons
Since this was a top location, they were fairly strict about the standard of operations. They couldn't be short hours so if you had time to make up you needed to make it up before end of week. Very heavy with the cleaning, which isn't a bad thing! Especially for it being a gym. But, the level of attention to detail and frequency of cleaning was not on par with the amount we got paid. I believe I started at around $12 an hour. After 90 days I think I got a 50 cent raise. But cleaning rows of machines top to bottom for nearly the entirety of the shift as well as rotating walk throughs (going through the entire gym to check trashes, paper towels dispensers, and bathroom check, etc.) was not worth the $12/hour. It is entry level but for the level of physical work it wasn't worth it for me. I fully believe the level of cleanliness should be this way, I have no problems with their protocols, but getting paid more would have been more worthwhile. Not to mention there isn't much places for you to go. Shift lead, assistant manager, store manager, and regional manager, that's about it. If you're a younger adult/teenager with energy, a love for staying busy, making your job a workout, and don't have real bills to pay this would be a good job to start gaining some basic experience. If you're an older adult needing to pay your mortgage and feed kids, I don't recommend.
