What is the hiring process like at NetApp?

NetApp India - Honest Review Based on My Real Experience

      Pros

Company is good not people in the team i endedup

      Cons

I am writing this review to share my personal experience at NetApp India, particularly in the team I worked with. This is not a general comment about the entire company, but based completely on what I personally went through. When you are a fresh graduate, joining your first full-time job, you expect a supportive environment where you can learn, grow, and build your foundation. Unfortunately, my experience was the exact opposite. I ended up in a team where insecurity among certain individuals was deeply rooted. Instead of guiding and helping new joiners, they treated us like laborers - with no respect, no patience, and no genuine intention to support growth. During the interview process, there was no mention that the culture would demand availability 24x7. However, after joining, an unhealthy expectation was created, especially by a few individuals who worked until 3-4 AM and expected others to do the same. This was never formally communicated, but the pressure was real and suffocating. The toxicity was not mainly because of the immediate manager but came from higher leadership - at the director level. The manager had to follow orders, but the environment set by the senior leadership was extremely harmful. They pretended to be hardworking and "nice" on the surface, but the ground reality was very different. Their actions, tone, and behavior toards employees were disrespectful and demean In recorded Zoom meetings, tney spoke politely, but in one-on-one in-person meetings, the tone changed completely - full of arrogance, disrespect, and even direct insults, where they openly said things like "if I were there, I would have scolded you," showing a complete lack of professionalism and humanity. The company infrastructure, salary, and brand value are good, but mental peace is completely missing in certain teams. The "bucket culture" (pleasing superiors for survival) was highly active. Promotions, recognition, and growth depended more on personal relations than true performance. I believe that people who live with such deep insecurities, harming others for their own benefit, may seem to live a happy life today - with money, family, and status - but true happiness, kindness, and peace will be missing from their lives. Eventually, only their selfishness will surround them. If NetApp wants to maintain its strong reputation, a deep investigation into such toxic teams and leadership is badly needed. Simply removing or correcting such individuals could make a huge difference for the future of many young, talented employees.

      Pros

I am working at NetApp since the past two & a half years as a human resources professional. The company has a great culture and a lot of opportunities for growth & expertise development. The work is challenging but rewarding, and the people are smart and friendly. I would definitely recommend NetApp to anyone looking for a job in the tech world

      Cons

There can be issues with time management & cross functional collaboration sometimes especially if one may be involved with multiple work-streams. Which is not uncommon in the industry, of course. New processes & methodologies may benefit from better change management

      Pros

Great employee benefits in US. I worked in the San Jose office and the workplace experience was excellent.

      Cons

I was terminated this year as a business unit was not performing well. The whole termination process was not ideal.

      Good people and work culture

      Pros

Good Benefits, multiple opportunities to work, growth and transition incase someone is willing to. Good culture and work life balance

      Cons

Recent Management has impacted quite a lot roles and re-structured multiple positions. Lack of proper communication from management to individuals. For contractors its not much benefits as they are not employees and hence management not bothered for their growth. It only comes after you have been converted to FTE. Hike is also mediocre, initial hiring is with good budget but don't expect any hike after that. they did not even beat the inflation.

      Awful

      Pros

Most of the staff were nice and welcoming.

      Cons

I was brought in to NetApp on what was described as "a 2 month temporary role at reception with the chance of it becoming permanent". This was dependent on the old receptionist accepting her new role or not. The moment I entered the building, the receptionist was extremely standoffish. She was supposed to be training me but she would often leave me at the desk whilst she went off on her phone or to speak with people who were on their break. I was constantly being spoken down to by her the whole time I was there, and in my second week, she was already talking about coming back to the reception as she was messaging people about it at the desk right in front of me. However, any time I would try to speak to her about this she would storm off in a temper. I was then told this was a misunderstanding and that she "was just having a bad day", but the way she spoke to me never changed. She then tried to make me apply for other jobs whilst I was at the desk, including jobs that required French and Spanish speaking roles (neither of which I can speak). She would also try to force me to speak in Spanish to communicate with the cleaners, even though these cleaners live in Ireland and refuse to speak English. The reality is this role was never going to become permanent and she just wanted someone to talk down to and bully. Such a shame as I really relished the opportunity but one stubborn worker never wanted me to be there.

      Business outlook

      Pros

I spent 11 years at NetApp and learned many valuable lessons and gained incredible knowledge that have fueled my career. I wouldn't change my time at NetApp, the relationships I made last to this day.

      Cons

NetApp is lost, like a lot of legacy hardware storage providers trying to navigate a cloud connected world. Their value prop is murky and they are a commodity in a saturated market. Why am I writing a post 3 yrs removed from the company.....this company lost their integrity and this line NetApp opens with when they post a job, is not genuine and is insulting, "We’re forward-thinking technology people with heart." Does a company with heart, eliminate your position while you are undergoing cancer treatment? Apparently in NetApp's eye's their definition of heart does include such behavior....disgusting! The definition of Heart for NetApp means kick people aside when they are there most vulnerable. I understand a catchy marketing slogan, but can a marketing team be that out of touch with the culture and reality of their own company? Apparently yes. If you are considering a job at NetApp, spend some time doing research, look up Tom Mendoza speaking on culture, David Hitz on what NetApp was when he felt his kid was old enough to embark on new challenges. Reach out to past NetApp employees on LinkedIn to understand the company you don’t see in their hiring ads. Ask insightful questions based on your research and most importantly understand why after so many rounds of layoffs that have impacted 1000’s, that this company is worth trusting your livelihood and the wellbeing of you and your family? The people I know and love still at NetApp are looking over their shoulders waiting for the next axe to drop. All biding their time for the job market to pick up, so they can run away from this NetApp’s “Heart”.

      A plague

      Sales development representative (sdr)
      Former employee

      Business outlook

      Pros

There’s absolutely none. They can pay for health insurance but you will spend more money when they cause you a disability or sickness.

      Cons

If you’re considering joining this company, especially in certain high-pressure teams, I strongly encourage you to look deeper than the polished public image and five-star reviews. Behind the scenes, many employees experience a culture of bullying, gossip, and toxic management practices. Despite having internal departments supposedly dedicated to “integrity” or “employee wellbeing,” raising genuine concerns often leads to further scrutiny rather than support. Bullying is frequently enabled or ignored by HR, and those who speak up may find themselves isolated, pushed out, or their pay withheld. Many employees are afraid to report mistreatment due to fear of retaliation—and sadly, that fear is not unfounded. Even after leaving, former staff may find themselves chasing unpaid final salaries, missing payslips, and complete silence from HR. This isn’t just about bad management—this is about basic ethical and legal responsibilities being ignored. For a company that claims to have a heart, the treatment of employees says otherwise. The emotional and financial toll of this environment has lasting consequences. Some of us left not just burned out—but with serious health challenges made worse by the experience. If you’re reading this, especially as a new joiner or potential hire: ask questions, observe carefully, and protect your wellbeing first.
