What are sales commissions like at Leafly?

      Pros

      Nothing. Don’t work here. Ever.

      Cons

You will work harder than you’ve ever worked and you won’t feel like you’re making any progress whatsoever because your expectations will change on a monthly basis. Goals are set based on senior leadership, having absolutely no semblance of what’s going on at the ground level, are in a constant state of panic because the company is dying a death of a thousand razors. They’ve figured out a good tactic to save money on commissions though. Make goals impossible to hit, and also change your book of business every quarter so as soon as you build up some good accounts, they take them away and give you an entire new book of business where you get to start all over again. For two quarters I received $0 in commission and I was the top performer on the team. You don’t have to believe me and brush this off as a disgruntled employee (which I am) but it is the truth. Everyone on the sales team operates under the assumption that they won’t be paid commission and has learned to live on their completely average base salary. To reiterate, after your ramp period, there will be no commission. Period. Jordan Belfort couldn’t hit the goals even if he went back on drugs. Market Manager means they combined the CSM, AE, and account manager teams into one role and fired everyone else. You will be expected to handle new business, upsells, account management, customer support, and everyone’s favorite, delinquency collection. You will have your accounts shuffled around so frequently that any success you do have with sales will be passed over to another rep. That is a guarantee. Again, you could be the best sales person in the world, taking adderall and sleeping two hours a night and you won’t come close to hitting your goals. And if you somehow are able to, your book will be stripped and redistributed as a punishment for making the company pay you a fraction of your commission. Your boss will tell you you’re doing a great job and nonsensically celebrate tiny, negligible wins with a barrage of emojis and virtual high 5s, and then fire you if you for no reason and say it was because you weren’t showing improvement. Probably outing myself here, but I was the best rep on my team by a factor of 4 compared to the second best, and had my best sales month of my 5 year career the month before I was fired for breaking a company policy that I didn’t break and was also blatantly unenforced. Couldn’t possibly have to do with the fact that I my base salary was 33% higher than everyone else’s right Leafly? Sorry I worked there longer than everyone else on my team but when you work somewhere for a long time and do very well, you tend to get a lot of raises and promotions. I didn’t even know who the person who fired me was and when I asked why I was being let go she said, “that’s not relevant because the decision is final”. I sound arrogant and pompous, but I want to say it again, I brought in 4x more revenue than the next best member of my team the MONTH before you fired me and all whoever that lady was who fired me said was that she didn’t see the performance improvements you were looking for. She didn’t even know my first name. Thanks for the support Mark. You could have at least laid me off. Anyway, yeah other than that let’s see, they got rid of the entire content team which is the backbone of the business. Who knows who writes the drab they publish these days. Their customer support is horrible so if you’re a business owner, don’t expect to have the same rep for more than a few weeks, and good luck getting a hold of them. They’ll also raise your rates dramatically without any notification and send you straight to collections if you don’t pay so make sure you pay attention to your bills! Anyway I have a lot more to say but I’m bored. Oh yeah there are more reviews written by minorities than have worked there in the past 6 years so don’t believe those for a second. My boss also told me they were explicitly told in a meeting not to hire any more white people for the sales team. True story. Not sure why that’s relevant but it’s pretty messed up. K now I’m done bye.
