What is the salary like at Kubrick Group?

I joined Kubrick after graduating university and had no previous experience in Data Engineering. The training offered by Kubrick was good, although individual trainers varied in quality. It gave me some fundamental skills and I was lucky to be deployed on client side extremely quickly after completing training. My client is where I learned the most, and I found the time extremely valuable for me and my career (again, I have heard this experience varies considerably from client to client but I was fortunate with mine). I worked with some truly fantastic and lovely people during my time here (both at my client and within Kubrick) and I would recommend it for someone looking to break into tech with little to no experience.

Early pay levels are low, but progression to a decent wage is relatively quick. Inconsistent experience depending on which client you happen to be placed at. My main problem with Kubrick is its current retention/progression strategy for more senior consultants. It definitely has a problem with retaining its talented consultants, and that is because they do not have a decent system in place for development after completing the initial 2 years. I think they are attempting to change this, but there is still a long way to go. Consultants who are highly valued at client for consistently outstanding work should have that reflected in their compensation and be prioritised for promotions, but unfortunately that is not the case.

They couldn't really care less about you. Everything becomes about fleecing both you and the clients, charging exorbitant fees for what they'd be paid.

- The training is great. All of the trainers are industry experts so they have really interesting backgrounds and are great at translating the training into a working environment. They even make themselves available to help with interview prep - I really don't know where else you have that sort of support from such senior figures in their industries. Most are good at teaching to students with absolutely no tech knowledge - people from STEM backgrounds generally have an advantage in learning coding, but the model is based on an assumption of 0 understanding. - Access to big clients. The client relationships and the projects that you have access to are amazing. If you take a look at all of the companies Kubrick work with there are loads of big names and it's a great way to get your foot in the door with a lot of these. Kubrick encourage you to work closely with your client and you have the option to go full-time with them after the two years. - Protecting consultants. HR are really great, and despite the consulting industry taking a big hit, Kubrick have not taken to cutting staff and even raised salaries when it wasn't popular with clients. This doesn't seem to be a popular opinion on this page but I feel like they generally do look after consultants very well - I think most issues arise from communication. - The pay is great. Being paid through training is rare. I think it could probably be better (especially when you compare to US salaries), and hopefully, this will be addressed this year when the industry picks up. - Career progression. The company is still relatively young but it's clear they're interested in retaining talent so there is now a good path for after your 2-year contract.

- The bench. This is part of what you sign up to at a consultancy but I think a lot of people don't realise this/ it's not advertised. Many consultants are essentially waiting around for their next placement and I think Kubrick have only just realised that this needs investment as the company expands. - Benefits. The benefit system has changed recently but it's basically all healthcare now which is a shame. Personally, this feels like a bit of a waste as most consultants are young and would benefit more from cost-of-living help. I think this is the main downfall compared to competitors who offer subsidised meals/transport. - Communication before placement. A lot of the time it's not very clear who does what when setting up a consultant's placement from their POV. It can be quite an unsettling time - particularly straight out of training so I think there should be a better system between the client and people teams to ensure that all consultants deploy with confidence. I would say they also don't really care much about your preferences - if you're a good fit for a role, you will be put forward for it. Being flexible and open to anything is the best thing you can be as a consultant - the 'boring' clients are usually the best ones, and being an asset on a project just sets you up to have more choice next time. - The contract. I'm actually not sure if the bond is still a thing but that would obviously be a con if someone changes their mind. I don't think they really need the scare tactic to stop people from leaving - the job is well-paid and the team is pretty flexible if you are unhappy.

- Paid Training. - You are essentially paid to upskill if you are on the bench. - If you're on the bench you may as well go on holiday, Kubrick will never know, as long as you make it to the daily morning stand up you could literally work a second job, - Huge consultant population of young professionals, if you are in your 20s, this place is as good as it gets to make friends at work who are of a similar age as you. - Trainers and senior consultants are very good at what they do, Kubrick runs in house training led by these people, so there's a good chance you will learn a few things. (But these training sessions are rare, post paid training you are in charge of your own learning). - Despite other reviews I believe Kubrick is actually an industry leader in terms of consultant compensation. It's very easy to think you are under paid at Kubrick, as a new consultant, while you look at other salaries for similar roles elsewhere. This is until you actually start applying for roles elsewhere and realise as a junior data professional, how little you really know in the grand scheme of things.

- HUGE, ABSOLUTELY MASSIVE disconnect between the account managers and the consultants. The way they dodge communicating with consultants is very impressive. Olympic level dodgeball atheltes, truly. The only way I could actually get a chance to talk to them was by catching them in the office in person. Messages on teams to them may as well be sent via glassbottle in the ocean. - You are very much at the whim of the market and Kubrick's consultant placement team as a consultant, very talented consultants are pushed through the most convoluted interview and assessment pipelines with zero chance of placement, whilst other less talented consultants are placed after a pulse check interview with a client. - Long waiting times on the bench, you will hear legends of consultants sat on the bench for over a year. You could upskill till the heat death of the universe, your luck may be so awful you'll just never get placed - Having to undergo client interviews before placement. I feel a lot of work needs to be done to overcome this obstacle, otherwise Kubrick consultants will continue to suffer. But then after you see how much Kubrick charges clients for consultants you understand why they basically expect consultants to be a full stack engineers. There's obviously a balance to be struck here, but it's honestly hilarious how some consultants who know next to nothing are shipped off onto client site before you can blink and others who are worth double their salary are sweating for their jobs on the bench. - Risk of redundancy, read other reviews you will soon get a taste of what's been cooking at Kubrick.
