Nice environment overall, but suffering of "feature factory"
Pros
- Company is more ethical than competitors, helping artists - Good culture: open and transparent, no hierarchies, good managers, good WFH policy, decent salary - New projects use modern tech stack, no red tapes - Legacy systems do not require a lot of maintenance and are being replatformed - No need for on-call in most teams, as working on backoffice systems
Cons
Overall there's no sense of ownership or improving things anymore, just delivery-delivery-delivery - CTO has no power, with rest of C-suite and board micromanaging deadlines and priorities even though they don't have the full context - It's becoming very waterfall, with big bang quarterly plans to the individual ticket level, being tracked throughout the quarter - Extra-team communication is non existing, hence the addition of heavy processes and a lot of "managers" (delivery, project, ...) - Feature factory: building just because you are told to, even if it might not be needed and without plan to integrate with other parts - Every team is cutting corners to meet self imposed deadlines or to prioritise ROI, with big amounts of tech debt being built in new projects and incidents increasing each day. No plans to address any of this - Budget cuts with no reasons - CEO distanced the tech department, even though it's one of the reasons why the company is successful
