      Pros

      - Amazing teams and colleagues, lots of talented and incredible people we get to work with and learn from each day - Leadership makes a great effort to ensure we feel supported, heard, and cared for - Remote work but they put an emphasis on opportunities for in-person events to ensure we still feel connected to our colleagues and part of the team - Great benefits package and HSA wellness benefit each year - Open about upcoming changes and what we can expect. Leadership is also open to listening to people's thoughts, concerns, and feelings about those changes - Lots of opportunities for growth here, new roles open up all the time as the company scales which is exciting - We have a great community of customers as well, as someone who has worked in other customer support roles- we have a very incredible community here at Jane! - Jane's Co-Founders are smart, caring individuals who truly want the best for their community and their employees. Not something you see everywhere! - Annual raises and stock options

      Cons

      - Not a con but Jane is growing quickly which means things are often changing and adapting. Not a bad thing, many love that about the company but it does mean it's not for everyone. - It is a fast-paced environment and gets busy, it makes the days fly by but again- not everyone's cup of tea

Gosh I'm really behind on my Glassdoor replies. Thanks for the review here - I appreciate all of your thoughts here and for the impact you've had with our Customers over the last 4 years. Time really flies. I'm going to comment on the "growing quickly" comment, because it's something that I'm thinking about a lot right now. I know we just had a conversation at All Hands about Growth and how we're at a really exciting point in Jane's story - where we have the opportunity to share Jane with more Helpers and offer new delightful products and services to our Community. This moment is something we've worked hard to build over the last 10 years, and now I'd love to see us run! We're really cautious about "selling" Jane when there's any question of Delight for our Customers, and we spent 2024 filling in a lot of the product gaps with the "Big 8". This moment really feels like a lot of pieces slotting into place and I'm so excited about our next few years - and how we can become an even more integral and valuable part of our existing and growing Customer Community. Who, as you mentioned, are just the most lovely humans to work with. What a privilege. I'm really excited to have you as part of the team and to hear your enthusiasm for the positive sides of growth. I'm glad your experience includes Jane being a place that is "Open about upcoming changes and what we can expect. Leadership is also open to listening to people's thoughts, concerns, and feelings about those changes". We'll keep working to scale that along with everything else! It seems like, especially in a remote environment, the individual experience is so determined by the direct manager, and team on which one works. I really appreciate that the Healthcheck helps me identify if there are specific teams who are having a different experience from the majority. Thanks for sharing that your lead is creating a wonderful working environment for you - I'm here to celebrate that too!

      Pros

Company culture values flexibility, progressiveness, collaboration, hard work, and conscientiousness. There is always more to learn and room to grow. You are encouraged to seek opportunities to challenge yourself and own your career path and personal development. The product is incredibly valuable to many people, and makes a genuinely positive difference to users and their clients.

      Cons

The pace is intense and can be overwhelming for some. Strong emphasis on collaboration and respect can sometimes result in too many people involved in decision-making.

Hi! Thanks for taking the time to jump onto Glassdoor and share your experience. It's always really appreciated. I love love love how much you packed into the Pros there! I'm so glad that's the experience you're having. I really like everything you've said here - and actually one of my favourite things is how you've listed "Collaboration" as both a Pro and a Con! If that doesn't explain the complexities of scaling a business I don't know what does 😆. And I fully agree with you. I often say that in us as humans, our biggest strength is often also our biggest weakness. Whenever people are struggling with some part of themselves, I like to ask about how that part of them shows up in positive ways. For me, it can be strong feelings. They work well for me when I need to champion an important cause, or inspire the team towards a mission or a goal - but that can work against me when those feelings veer into frustration or impatience. So I have to work on loving the strength and then work at ensuring that this part of me is more controlled in the scenarios where it shows up in an un-helpful way. Collaboration feels exactly like that to me! We need it to create buy in from everyone involved, and it helps with communication and broad perspective. But it also slows things down and can lead to distributed ownership where no one knows who's responsible. This is particularly something that we're working through on the "Triad" structure of the Product org. I'm looking forward to seeing how that idea evolves over time to become a little more clear - ensuring that all voices are heard and respected, while still leading to clear action and alignment. Thanks for being on this Jane Journey with us! Ali - Co-Founder/Co-CEO on behalf of Jane

      Pros

      - Great company culture, where the leaders legitimately care about both the customers and the people who work there - Growth stage with lots of interesting problems to solve and lots of opportunities - Laid back environment with very little politics or ego involved - Decent compensation for Canada, with private stock options. - Emphasis on work-life balance - Fully remote - Very responsible with finance and not chasing growth at all costs

      Cons

      - Normal growing pains for a company at this size and stage. Trying to figure out the right processes and structures necessary to be successful. - Development is very waterfall-like even though there is an attempt to be more agile - Vacation/PTO is on the low side - Even though fully remote, majority of staff work in Pacific Time. Aligning with your team can be hard if you are in a different time zone and disconnecting can be difficult if your day ends earlier than the majority of your team's day.

Happy weekend out in Waterloo! We're having that "Arctic Front" here in Vancouver, which would probably make you laugh because it's -5 here and we're all trying to avoid going outside ❄️, and it's -10 today for you over there and probably "business as usual". 💪 I really appreciate hearing your pros and cons in this review - thanks so much for sharing. I always feel motivated by both sections - to continue to put effort into maintaining and iterating the "Pros" and to consider if there is more we can do to improve on the "Cons". I love that your Pros articulate efforts to live our Values - Particularly "Love Jane" (Team, Product, Company and Customer). So many lovely deeply rooted intentions that help us make our every day decisions. Even your comment mentioning our "responsible with finance" approach is based on a desire to build a company that is sustainable into the future - so that we can continue to serve our Customers and Team. Growth, yes, but not at the expense of our Customer or Team. 💕 And your Cons are so helpful - thank you for sharing. They are mostly articulating those organizational, design, and process changes that are needed to care for a changing system like Jane. 🛠️ Since we continue to add people every year, the complexity of Jane grows along with the headcount! Thanks for being a part of the conversations around bringing an agile mindset into the dev org. I know as a Staff Developer you're one of the people who are tasked with helping us iterate on an ever-evolving system here. So, thanks for sharing some of the places where you're feeling some cracks. I also liked hearing about your Time Zone challenges and that more PTO would be meaningful to you. I sat in on both the 2024 Roadmap Meeting and the 2023 Year in Review Meeting with the product team this week and I left feeling SO INSPIRED. If these are strides we're making in an imperfect system imagine what more we can do as we continue to refine and improve the eco-system in which we work together. I love that. Thanks for being an important part of what we have accomplished and of what we will be tackling in 2024. I couldn't be more excited to build some new great things together and to continue to Grow and Delight. 📈 🥰 💗 Thinking about this is a goal for both Jane as a Company and for our Customers. Grow and Delight! Ali Co-Founder/Co-CEO

      Pros

      - Competent management at every level who take a genuine vested interest in your success and well-being at the company - True team-based environment - everyone is rooting for Jane's collective success without any selfishness - Employee feedback is actioned on, more often than not - Management who are open to hearing constructive feedback on the great, and not-so-great things, who take a genuine interest in your growth at the company - The first toxicity-free customer-facing environment I've worked in after a whole career in customer-facing roles - The ability to speak openly to literally anyone at the company, including C-levels, about anything, at almost any time - Above average pay with a very generous amount of benefits relative to other companies in similar industries - I am a POC and have personally never experienced anything uncomfortable that I feel would be of concern from a DEI perspective, contrary to what some of the other recent reviews have brought up

      Cons

      - While rapid growth brings about positive changes, it also brings quite a bit of ambiguity along with it - knowing how to navigate these often murky waters takes some skill and grit to push through it all - It can take quite some time for the aforementioned employee feedback to be actioned on - some of it is due to the very intentional and responsible nature of how Jane grows, something that those who are used to extremely rapid tech startup-like growth patterns may not be aligned with - While management does take a genuine, vested interest in your success at the company, you have to be extremely vocal and laser-focused in pursuing a career path for yourself, for your management to partner up with you - this is not for everyone - It can sometimes feel like management is disconnected from the reality of what front-line staff face on a day-to-day basis as communication isn't always crystal clear, which I know is something that's being actively worked on

Alliteration in the title! You know the way to my heart ❤️. And what a trifecta - Rapid, Responsible and Respectful. Love that so much. And oh my - thanks for your message to me at the end. I'm always so grateful to everyone on the team who continues to reach out to me directly and who makes themselves an active participant in scaling Jane into a place we all want to work. Thank YOU! And thank you so much for such a personal, comprehensive and thoughtful review of your time at Jane. It always means so much to me when some of our longer term team share - since you would have seen a real change over time. Love that you have felt comfortable speaking up about improvements that need to be made and that more often than not you've seen actions taken. You mention that because of the intentional nature of company growth, sometimes those changes can take some time to see implemented. And I think that's likely to continue to feel a bit slow especially as changes need to be rolled out through a larger and larger team and organizational structure. So maybe your tenure helps you have patience for that process as you've developed trust over time. I also appreciate the honesty of your Cons. I've been thinking a lot recently about the various "Systems" at Jane and how it requires them all to work together to really have a thriving organization. I'm just working on pulling out a manager questionnaire from the overall Healthcheck and started thinking through these systems like this: "What does Jane really need to Thrive? We could look at Jane as being made up of 3 Systems that all need to work together to create a Healthy Whole Organization: 1. Jane The Company - Environment of Respect, Strong Leadership, Inspiring Mission, Clear Processes, Helpful Tools and Structure, Resourced Team, and Healthy Financial Metrics. 2. Jane’s Individual Team Members - Attitude, Quantity, Quality, Improvement Minded, Communication 3. Jane’s Managers - Championing and Building an environment to realize both of the above! When viewed as a parts of a whole, we could view the Company as the Skeletal System, the Team as the Muscular System and Thriving Mangers as the Nervous System that connects and communicates information allowing the whole body to work in unison 💞 Special mention to Jane’s Oxygen Source: Jane’s Customers - Choosing Jane and being Delighted :)" When I read through your review I heard you talk about these three systems - Company: Team based environment, action taken on feedback, great pay and equity and in inclusive environment. Individual: You mention how you personally contribute to your own success by speaking up when change is needed, and by taking an active role in your own career progression. You are also patient with change and understanding that ambiguity and imperfection are part of the package when you're in a scaling company. Manager: you are supportive of the managers, but also share some great feedback for them in the Advice section. I love that - you see the "and" here where we are all on a path to improvement. As for the Advice section - let me know if the tooling struggles have sorted themselves out! We have changed a pretty significant tool and are adding more - this comes with implementation pain and hopefully whatever was negative about the new tool has been tweaked by now. But if not let me know and I'd love to help continue that conversation. And yes - I can see that the phrase "I haven't been on the support floor" is meant to show compassion for how things have changed, but instead could show lack of willingness to really deeply understand the present experience. That's great feedback - will work with the Support Leadership on how they can get back into the day to day experience. Let me know if you have ideas there too! Thanks again for taking the time to share such a wonderfully nuanced review that demonstrates the complexity and nuances of thriving in a scaling company. I think it's a great picture for anyone considering applying on what sort of approach brings success and what to expect. Appreciate you! Ali - Co-Founder/Co-CEO On behalf of Jane

Nowhere is perfect, but I've never felt so recognized as a person and contributor, rather than a body or a name on the schedule at a workplace. Lots of opportunities to grow, organized, human.

Well hello there and thanks for your review. Sounds like you spent some time building Jane with us and are moving on to pursue some new opportunities. I'm so glad that you enjoyed the work and the team at Jane. As you know that can only be true when everyone who works together decides to show up at work in a way that makes working together productive, enjoyable and effective. As a team of nearing 500 humans, our work environment is only a blend of the way that each of us show up, communicate, and behave with one another. 🤝 And I hope that wherever you're off to both offers you a growth opportunity that matches your dreams for your career and also benefits from how you joining their team shifts their culture for the better. 🚀 Thanks for writing a part of Jane's story and wishing you success in 2024 :) Ali Co-Founder/Co-CEO on behalf of Jane

From day one (early 2023), my leaders have been amazing. I truly believe that how smoothly your day goes starts with the support you have... and equally, the support you choose to accept. My story started out on our Support Floor, and every lead I’ve had since has been open to feedback and created space for honest conversations. Even when things are difficult. One of the things I respect most is that ego never gets in the way, and I say that, at every level of leadership. There’s a genuine focus and balance on what’s best for the team, the product, our customers, and you, as an individual. I really value the mix of professionalism and connection I’ve built with my leaders. Whether it’s career growth, health, or life in general (both personal and professional), they’ve always been there for me in a way that feels thoughtful and supportive. I never feel like I have to prove my worth... I’m trusted to do my job in a way that works best for me which means I get to experiment, take risks, and celebrate both the wins and the lessons learned from failures. Mind you, there have been plenty of both! But instead of fear, I feel relief knowing I work in a place where growth is encouraged and mistakes aren’t punished. Our customers are the core of why I love what we do at Jane. Because Jane truly values connection, we’re able to bring that into every interaction, no matter the channel. Our customers are passionate, driven, and teach me something new in almost every conversation. Helping them succeed is something I hold close to my heart (having been a Jane user myself once upon a time). We genuinely live our mission of helping the helpers, and I’m so grateful for that. I have immense respect for our founders. They’re kind, self-aware, and incredibly passionate about our customers, the product, and the team. What I love most is how grounded they are - there’s no room for ego, just a shared commitment to making Jane better. I also appreciate the balance they bring as a pair; it’s rare to see leadership that feels so thoughtful and well-rounded. They're deeply involved in Jane’s evolution but trust us as experts to lead with confidence in the areas we work on. Money isn’t always the easiest or most exciting topic (hehe, here we go!), but it’s one I’ve never felt uncomfortable to chat about at Jane. So, a little confidence boost for those reading… two years into my journey here, I’ve felt really happy with both my pay and my career trajectory. It may sound traditional, but if you’re someone who’s resilient to change, focused on outcomes, quality, cooperation (with your lead and other teams), solution-oriented, and respectful of your salary package (which, to me, means using benefits like sick days thoughtfully), you’ll be in great hands. Jane is moving fast and we're evolving a lot; being able to emotionally regulate and recover from that change is important. So, with all this in mind, I believe that building strength in these areas or staying curious and open to growth can directly impact both career opportunities and salary progression for you. I love the freedom Jane gives me to work from the places that mean most to me. It’s a simple perk, but it makes a huge impact on my happiness and how I show up for the people I love and hobbies that make me happy. I genuinely love what I do. I get to work with a community I care deeply about. I believe in the product we’re building. And ultimately, I feel excited about where we’ve been, where we are now, and where we’re headed.

      Cons

I don’t see many cons to working at Jane, but I try my very best to view the challenges as the “happy pains” of being part of a thriving, growing, and profitable company. So... As the team grows, there are naturally more silos. It can feel like roles and responsibilities overlap, which makes things a little tricky, especially when finding the identity of your role. That said, I know leadership is aware of this and working to create more clarity and cohesion. You might notice from my advantage section... how I feel about our leaders and founders. I'm trusting the process of this, solely because I trust the people behind it. One of the things I’ve loved most about Jane is the strong connection between the Support and Product teams. With recent growth and the addition of experienced external hires (which Jane definitely needed!), I sometimes worry about that connection becoming less close. Jane's relationship with Support is definitely like no other company I've ever heard of... so I hope this doesn't change the more we grow. If your role falls into a transitional phase during Jane’s growth, that’s okay & it might not be easy - but, it’s a sign that leadership trusts you to manage your time, contribute in a meaningful way, lean on your support systems, and take care of yourself and your ability to work well. Your lead (or their lead) likely has many direct reports, so while you are a priority, you may not always be theee priority - and that can be difficult, but also understandable. So... Jane is changing fast, growing fast, and evolving processes just as quickly. That said, this pace isn’t for everyone, and that’s okay.
