Pros
pay is good (considering the area), for young adults especially. hours definitely add up when working consistently
Cons
the work culture wasn’t great. very “we’re all family here” sort of approach that feels warm on the surface, but if you’ve worked places like this before.. you know how it actually is. people aren’t direct with you in favor of seeming more polite than they are/will be. as a result, they end up taking off that mask and getting upset when employees fail to execute a task in a specific way (despite a severe lack of clarity that only comes *after* everyone gets it wrong). it’s a small annoyance that eventually gets worse when you realize that their poor communication skills overall with management is a huge complaint amongst guests as well. the root of way too many guest-resort issues end up being due to someone failing to fully explain something. which i, and other agents, witnessed on a regular basis — managers just getting frustrated from the get-go and barely explaining something to a guest. then complaining to the agents about said guest, despite that guest having a valid question. and later, acting like the guest is crazy when they come back later to complain that management didn’t help them because… they didn’t. the expectation is to just calm down the guest in whatever way works (free coupons, etc) without resolve. it’s likely a location issue with this GWL and not like a brand issue, but there’s a reason they have such a high turnover rate in this department. in my time there, i met at least 4 new hires that all left during that time. and there were about 4 people who were hired at the exact same time that i was to, obviously, replace the last round of agents that quit. it’s not an awful job; there are the expected cons of working somewhere that has a lot of spills, noise, etc. if you’re not the type of person i suppose. but the main issue, i would say, is the work culture which is influenced by management. maybe they’ve switched some people out since i left (there was one amazing manager that left as well, in part because of the work culture here. which they admitted to several of us. to give you an idea of how it really is) but if not? just be aware of that, move with that in mind. ask as many questions as you need to; they’ll tell you that too but it isn’t genuine. they’re quick to get annoyed if you need clarification on something they usually poorly explain. ask anyway; no one will fire you for trying to do your job. they may talk about you, but it’s genuinely so much better to do the job correctly and let them think you’re annoying… than to try and work off of their initial explanations so that they can come back and get onto everyone later (because, don’t worry, it isn’t just you).
TLDR; the work culture is the worst part. the job itself isn’t hard once you get down the software. just be cautious and careful when you’re learning new things from management especially (which is almost constantly, no matter how long you work there)
