      Pros

Potential to make a lot of money Built-in listings and customer base

      Cons

Commission only, no base pay even when there are no homes to sell and you are still required to sit in a model home for 8 hours - no lunch breaks allowed. These dry spells can last for several months at a time due to land development issues and/or construction delays

Great commission structure but management can be cutthroat

      Sales representative
      Former employee
      Raleigh, NC
      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business outlook

      Pros

Great Commission Structure and Sales Tools.

      Cons

Each division is run as it's own profit center. While company policies are the same from division to division the autonomy afforded to upper management can and does get abused. If you're a sales leader watch your six your hard earned commissions can be stolen if that deal hasn't closed in 30 days of an "at will" termination. It's an old game in the new home biz. Managers count their bonus first and walk on sales people to get there.

      The squeeze is on!!!!

      New home consultant
      Current employee
      Ocala, FL
      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business outlook

      Pros

DR Horton has the best incentives for their buyers which helps you sell more homes. They buy their mortgage interest rate down and pay all the closing cost. You can buy a home with a very small down payment.

      Cons

It's the economy stupid!!!!!! Not your sales people. Never satisfied, Tough times right now in the industry, the answer at DR Horton is to micro manage the crap out of the sales team. Never worked so hard for so little and now they cut the Sales Reps commission from 1.75% to 1.25% very hefty. It equals a $65,000 a year pay cut!!!!!

      Savannah, GA
      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business outlook

      Pros

You will receive a great commission

      Cons

Toxic work environment, lack of professionalism, lack of consistency, it is reminiscent of high school behaviors. I saw all of this information online through other reviews prior to working here and realized it was all true.

      Good Place to Earn Money

      New home sales counselor
      Current employee
      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business outlook

      Pros

Good commission and bonus structure Always a new house to sell Company invests in employee growth

      Cons

Homes are priced too high for their quality High prices makes it more difficult to close sales Customers are often concerned about quality The company struggles to innovate and bring a good diversification of products into the market

Good income and benefits, but high workload and micromanagement

      Sales representative
      Former employee
      Las Vegas, NV
      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business outlook

      Pros

Income, benefits and the majority of coworkers

      Cons

Workload, work-life balance, unrealistic expectations, micromanagement, excessive paperwork, spreadsheets and reports. Income can be fantastic but expect no life. Commission rate needs to be raised to fall in line with competitors or even other divisions.
