If you are a QA and you expect a supportive or encouraging management. Walk away.

      Pros

A well known company that user like to use the software. So your work is seen, if that's important to you.

      Cons

There is no tangible recognition for a good quality process, no structure to help you succeed in your role nor any support to get there in a chaotic and painfully adhoc delivery cycle. Read this as; no one can make any decisions by themselves and a company of 5000 is dictated to by 3 people. One of which openly brags "‘wartime’ approach to staff performance", how about an inch of sanity in Product development, team empowerment and a culture of quality and encouragement. Do not expect empowerment or autonomy in this environment and do not expect to be cared for. Unless you're a chop shop engineer and love to be told what and how to do it... repeatedly for the same feature. Walk away and keep your morals.

      Great Company Overall

      Business outlook

      Pros

The People team makes a genuine effort to support employees, with company-funded opportunities to connect with colleagues, and overall, work-life balance is respected. There are also plenty of nice-to-have perks and celebrations that boost morale when the company hits milestones. On top of that, the company places strong emphasis on diversity, inclusion, and social impact initiatives.

      Cons

While those perks are appreciated, opportunities for career growth can feel limited. Company-wide goals are communicated clearly, but at times, the impact of those goals on individuals and the adjustments required aren’t always explained as clearly as they could be.

OK Place to Work for Freelancers

      Pros

You have a handle of your own time and schedule. Workload is pretty straightforward.

      Cons

Very little opportunities for career progression are available for freelancers in the company. Don't go into the position as a contractor aspiring for a stable/full-time gig.

Canva is an incredible place to work, offering a perfect blend of innovation, collaboration, and creativity. The leadership team genuinely values employee growth and fosters a supportive culture. The work-life balance is excellent, with flexible schedules and a strong focus on mental health. Perks like free meals, wellness programs, and generous leave policies make employees feel truly valued. The company's mission to empower the world to design is inspiring, and it feels great to contribute to a product that makes a difference globally. Team members are passionate and talented, creating an environment where ideas thrive. Opportunities for career advancement are plentiful, and the company invests heavily in professional development. Canva is the perfect choice for those looking for a fulfilling and impactful career.

      Treats you like a human

      Senior software engineer
      Former employee
      Wellington, Wellington
      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business outlook

      Pros

At every point in my short tenure there, I was treated like a human with a life that sometimes gets messy and requires an alternative working schedule, last minute days off, or medical treatment. Even in the end, with needing to escape a toxic home life, they helped me get home safely and not have to worry about my job, treating my like my own safety was more important. The culture is unmatched from my past experience. Everyone is friendly, lots of opportunities to make friends and form good working relationships. Pays great for the region.

      Cons

6 month probationary period was not disclosed to me until after I had joined the company. Probably just an oversight, but was a source of stress.

Limited career progression - Senior roles involve routine tasks

      Anonymous employee
      Current employee
      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business outlook

      Pros

Competitive salary, reasonable work hours, generous feedback and performance reviews, great benefits, nice office

      Cons

Career progression is extremely limited, with little consideration given to employees’ experience or background when assigning work. There is rarely any opportunity to choose the type of projects you work on, which makes it difficult to align your role with your skills or interests. Management tends to be highly top-down. Ideas and input from team members are often dismissed, with managers and project leads maintaining tight control over decisions. This environment discourages initiative and stifles creativity. As a result, the work can feel unfulfilling and disconnected from meaningful engineering or research. Much of the focus shifts toward internal politics and meeting managerial expectations rather than producing impactful work. It is particularly frustrating that senior hires are frequently assigned tasks that could be handled by recent graduates, leading to a sense of underutilization and stagnation. Over time, this creates a feeling of dissatisfaction and concern that your career development is being negatively affected. One of the most frustrating aspects is the disconnect between how the company presents itself and the actual employee experience. A great deal of effort is put into promoting a culture that supports professional growth and enables people to do their best work. However, in practice, this often feels superficial. The reality does not consistently reflect these values. Opportunities for meaningful development, autonomy, and impactful work are limited, which creates the impression that the messaging is more about image than genuine commitment. This gap between expectation and experience can be particularly disappointing for employees who join with the hope of growing and contributing at a higher level.
