Inbound Supervisor (Night Shift)

AVI’s Logistics Support Services division seeks to attract an experienced individual to take on the role of a Inbound Supervisor – Night Shift based in Isando. The incumbent will be responsible for leading and coordinating all inbound warehouse operations to ensure the efficient receipt, verification, storage, and processing of stock within a fast-paced FMCG distribution environment.

Key Performance Areas:


Inbound Operations & Supervision

  • Liaise with factories on inbound plans and prioritize offloading to meet shift requirements.
  • Ensure all inbound vehicles are offloaded within set turnaround times.
  • Enforce strict compliance with all Inbound SOPs and Risk/QMS procedures.
  • Verify vehicle seals, conduct vehicle inspections, and report any variances or discrepancies immediately.
  • Ensure all inbound stock is checked, receipted, labeled (case/HU), and binned within 24 hours (12 hours for Ciro).
  • Ensure accuracy of inbound data in SAP and collaborate with the Inventory Control team to resolve any posting or quantity variances.
  • Oversee the receiving of Ciro, NBL, Indigo, and 3rd-party principal stock.
  • Verify data on in-transit reports and monitor SAP storage locations (WAY and others).
  • Maintain effective shuttle vehicle utilization and turnaround, reporting delays or factory/DC issues.
  • Complete and distribute daily receiving reports and activity summaries.
  • Maintain housekeeping standards and ensure compliance with Food Safety and SHERQ requirements.
  • Support continuous improvement and learning initiatives within the department.
  • Be available for standby duties when required, especially during peak seasons when the department operates over weekends.

Staff Management & Control

  • Plan, prioritize, and delegate daily duties to Receiving Department staff.
  • Provide regular coaching, feedback, and development opportunities to build team capability and ensure succession within the department.
  • Manage timekeeping, attendance and absenteeism through the time and attendance system.
  • Manage timesheets and rotation for Permanent Part Time or Flexi staff under your control.
  • Monitor performance, conduct uniform and facility inspections, and take prompt corrective action where needed.
  • Authorize overtime, track hours worked and ensure weekly timesheets are accurate.
  • Maintain the department’s leave roster, approve leave requests and ensure leave balances remain at acceptable levels.
  • Conduct regular toolbox talks and ensure adherence to company policies and procedures.
  • Handle basic Industrial Relations matters and disciplinary processes as required.
  • Train and develop backups within the department.

Equipment & MHE Management

  • Ensure all drivers complete daily MHE and scanner check sheets; review and sign off.
  • Ensure all MHE operations comply with safety standards and address unsafe practices immediately.
  • Log breakdowns and arrange necessary repairs or servicing with the MHE provider.
  • Ensure all forklifts, reach trucks, and pallet jacks are maintained in a clean, safe, and operational condition, and maintain a trend report of issues to identify and address root causes.
  • Monitor equipment utilization and running hours for balanced usage.
  • Track and address MHE-related issues or exceptions reported via the FMX system.

Administration & Reporting

  • Ensure all receiving documentation is complete, accurate, and filed daily.
  • Ensure adherence to company record retention and document control policies.
  • Perform SAP receipting of inbound stock and manage pallet transactions on the CHEP Portfolio.
  • Compile and distribute daily/weekly performance and activity reports to relevant stakeholders.
  • Report and investigate all incidents and damages promptly.
  • Maintain adequate stationery and supplies for the department.
  • Ensure warehouse areas and offices under supervision remain clean and organized, coordinating with cleaning contractors.
  • Identify and report cost-saving opportunities within the department.
  • Ensure consistent communication with management, factories, and other departments on load statuses and operational priorities.
  • Conduct regular on-the-job task observations and monthly inter-departmental SOP audits, reporting findings to Compliance and Management and ensuring timely corrective actions.
  • Support internal and external audits by ensuring all inbound documentation, reports, and records are audit ready.
  • Ensure all staff are trained on SOPs relevant to their functions whenever processes are updated, with refresher training conducted at least annually.
  • Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) for inbound operations, including vehicle turnaround, receiving accuracy, and binning timelines, and implement corrective action where targets are not met.


What It Takes to Succeed:


Experience that set you up for success:

  • Minimum of 8 years warehousing/receiving experience within FMCG and distribution environment.
  • Must have experience with supervising/managing teams.
  • Proficient on SAP WM with the ability to perform all relevant inbound and warehouse transactions confidently and accurately.
  • Knowledge of Warehouse Management Systems (WMS)
  • Knowledge of quality control and food safety standards.
  • Knowledge of Occupational Health, Safety and Risk management practices.
  • Strong understanding of warehouse receiving and stock control procedures.
  • High level of computer literacy - MS Office.
  • Must have own reliable transport.


Qualifications & Certifications that will contribute to your success:

  • Grade 12 / Matric completed.
  • Diploma in Supply Chain/Logistics/Warehousing Management or similar is essential.
