Even convicted felons can take PRIDE in their work. Prison Rehabilitative Industries and Diversified Enterprises (PRIDE Enterprises), a not-for-profit corporation, enables inmates in some 20 Florida prisons to learn job skills. PRIDE operates in about 40 industries, employing inmates in activities such as furniture making, license plate embossing, meat processing, and eyewear production. Customers such as schools, local governments, and nonprofits buy the products made by the inmates. PRIDE also offers labor outsourcing to private businesses. The group's revenue is dedicated to inmate room and board, inmate wages and transition services, and victim restitution. PRIDE was founded in 1981.
