Mission Our vision is simple: we believe everyone is entitled to a good quality home that they can afford, in a place that they are proud to live.
Description Orbit was established in 1967 by two people on a park bench contemplating how to tackle homelessness. The passion they felt about the inequality in the access, scale and quality of available housing was channelled into positive action, and Orbit was created.
Our purpose today is every bit as important as it was when Orbit was founded. We now manage a growing portfolio of over 46,500 affordable and social rent homes and support over 100,000 customers in differing stages of life, from those seeking their first home to customers looking for enhanced supported living. We are also one of the UK’s largest developers of affordable housing, building over 5,300 new homes by 2025.
We place our customers at the heart of what we do, investing in communities to make great places to live. As a not-for-profit organisation, we use our surplus to invest in our homes and services, and to increase the provision of affordable housing.
We’re committed to being responsive to the challenges that customers are facing and offering the right help at the right time to support their tenancies and personal wellbeing.
Our Tenancy Support team offers life skills coaching and employment support, and by working with our customers on all areas of their life, we embed the importance of maintaining a home at the heart of all conversations. Each customer has a tailored journey to enable them to make the changes in their life that will secure their future. Last year alone we supported over 9,000 customer referrals; delivered over 3,000 coaching sessions; supported over 300 customers into employment or volunteering; and our customers were on average £606 better off each month when going into employment. 99% of Housing With Support customers who engaged with the service sustained their tenancies for the first 12 months.
Our Better Days programme helps thousands of people every year. Through our expert team and independent partners, we offer free information, advice and guidance to customers to help them improve their skills around wellbeing, work, digital, and managing their money.
