If there is one thing I have learned on my path from the military, to the Oakland Police Department, and eventually from an SIS ODO to an SIS Director of Special Operations, it is this: you do not start leading the day you get promoted. You start leading long before anyone gives you the title. When I started as a Private in the military, I was not in charge. I was not directing military strategy or setting policy. But I was responsible for my performance, my attitude, and how I showed up for the team. You learn quickly in that environment that rank may establish authority, but it does not automatically earn respect. Respect comes from competence, consistency, and being someone others, both in and outside your chain of command, can rely on to get things done. A Reflection on 15 Years with SIS by Tom Stevens, VP of Administration In March, I had my 15-year anniversary with SIS. This has had me reflecting quite a bit over my journey at SIS, which at times has felt more like a carnival ride (in a good way). The one thing that keeps resonating in my head is how much change has happened in that time. For some reference, I would like to share some highlights and just a few lowlights from my time here. I started with SIS in May of 2010 as the VP of Retail, and at the time, Retail was the smallest division in terms of revenue, comprising about 25%. In my first couple of years, revenue across the company grew at a rapid pace, adding new business across all Divisions while our Administration team also grew to support the growth as we brought on some really big-name clients.
