The Veterinary Clinical Sciences Department is at the forefront of educational innovation, leveraging AI-driven language translation techniques. Our goal is to enhance the accessibility of veterinary educational resources in non-English-speaking regions, particularly in underdeveloped areas, thus promoting global veterinary educational equity. We are in search of a Research Assistant who not only brings dedication and proactivity but also appreciates the confluence of technology and education in shaping the future of veterinary studies.
Bone and Microbiota Health after Long-term Administration of Omeprazole in Thoroughbred Racing Horses
The appointee will play a vital role in executing this project, with the following responsibilities:
- Design, develop, and enhance RESTful APIs with a focus on performance, scalability, and security;
- Build and maintain backend services using Python (Django) and TypeScript;
- Develop and maintain web applications using Next.js;
- Architect, deploy, and maintain cloud-based solutions;
- Design efficient data models and optimise database queries using MySQL;
- Implement and maintain Elasticsearch indexes, queries, and search functionality;
- Integrate backend systems with third-party APIs and external platforms;
- Collaborate with DevOps teams on CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure, and deployment strategies;
- Conduct code reviews, enforce engineering best practices, and mentor junior developers; and
- Troubleshoot production issues and drive long-term improvements in system reliability and performance.
- A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related discipline;
- Strong proficiency in Python and hands-on experience with TypeScript;
- Experience in developing backend services using Django or similar frameworks, and building web applications with Next.js;
- Strong understanding of RESTful API design, performance tuning, and security best practices;
- Experience with OCR and MySQL schema design, query optimisation, and performance tuning;
- Experience with Elasticsearch, including search optimisation and index management, and integrating third-party APIs securely and efficiently;
- Familiarity with microservices architecture, distributed systems, and messaging queues; and
- Strong version control skills using Git and experience with CI/CD workflows.
Candidates who are final-year full-time undergraduate students with passes in at least 5 HKCEE/HKDSEE subjects may be considered for appointment as Technical Assistant.
Remuneration package will be highly competitive, commensurate with qualifications and experience.
