We are currently engaged by a premier, technology-driven investment firm to identify a Production Support Engineer for a critical, one-year contract based in Hong Kong.
This is not a traditional IT support role. My client is a high calibre and collaborative group of researchers, technologists, and traders. They operate at the intersection of large-scale data and scientific innovation to navigate complex global markets. You will be embedded in the engine room that powers this trading operation.
Your Mission:
You will join a specialized team responsible for the stability and performance of the firm’s core research and trading data infrastructure. Your primary focus will be to ensure the integrity, availability, and timely delivery of critical data sets that feed directly into live trading strategies and research initiatives. This involves proactive monitoring, rapid issue investigation, and close collaboration with quantitative researchers and developers.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide frontline support for a complex ecosystem of data extraction, pipelines, and operational processes.
- Utilize cloud platforms to manage, monitor, and troubleshoot data jobs.
- Guarantee the stability and availability of data systems, ensuring all critical tasks are completed ahead of each trading session.
- Investigate and resolve incidents with a focus on minimizing impact, often collaborating with global technology teams.
- Support and administer systems across both Linux and Windows environments (understandably it’s not common to have both, Linux would be relatively more important)
- Maintain and support relational databases, performing essential queries and updates.
- Develop and enhance monitoring and automation scripts to improve system reliability.
The Non-Negotiable Candidate Profile:
The successful candidate will be first and foremost a problem-solver with a profound sense of ownership. You must thrive in a high-pressure environment where accuracy and speed are paramount.
Essential Technical Skills:
- 3-15 years experience in a production-facing support role within a trading or similar high-stakes technology environment.
- Experience working in Finance Technology. Not necessarily front office, but you should have experience with trading-related applications in a sell-side or buy-side technology environment, or related financial platform vendor
- Highly proficient in a Linux/Unix environment.
- Strong scripting skills are a must: you should be highly competent in Bash and have practical experience with Python for automation and tooling.
- Strong relational database skills with the ability to write and troubleshoot basic to intermediate SQL queries.
- Familiarity with version control, preferably Git.
Highly Desirable Skills:
- Experience with Windows OS and PowerShell for automation
- Exposure / a working knowledge of AWS or another major cloud provider.
- A background supporting Front Office users, ideally traders or quantitative researchers. You can come from any asset class, but should have a good understanding of the data feeds that go into trading the asset class
