My confession (a tax preparer with 5 years exp, 100k salary) is that when I finish preparing returns, yeah I’ll look over the manual entries within the software and I look at 2 year comp but other than that, I don’t print to PDF to check my work. I honestly just don’t care. I get maybe like 5-6 review notes each return. It’s so much time between preparing and checking yourself and it’s like, eh, I’ll let the reviewer finish off.

Continued: Tax is so detailed focus and I just don’t care for it. The thing is…I guess I don’t care to be a manager in this career. After reviewer reviews and tells me issues, I just go back and fix or sometimes they do it, which is nice. Are there any preparers who feel like this? This career is draining. Tax season killed me this year. I jsut don’t care man.
We all know, and talk about it constantly. Most of your peers are doing the same thing.
Whats the best way to make it easier for reviewers to review it ? will a AI review assistant will be a handy solution?
At least you are looking at the two year comparison page..thats more of a self review than most mid-level people do
So did like you really just need to vent or are you trying to stir up conversation? You posted the same thing on Reddit. It sounds like this job just isn't for you.
Both! I’m active on both platforms! Also yeah, I eventually want to get out.
Your reviewers can tell
You’re missing the most crucial part. Self review gets easier if you self review the day after prep. Print to pdf, have py pdf open and ctlr tab each page for what changed. Saved me time on fixing reviewer cosmetic notes and allowed me to focus on what I didn’t know.
I review while it's fresh in my mind. Waiting until the next day would take more time to remember what I was thinking.
