I just got an incredible job offer from a private clinic, but I literally handed in my two weeks' notice at my hospital yesterday and now they’re throwing a massive counter-offer at me. They suddenly found the budget to offer me a 15% raise, a preferred schedule, and the exact title change I’ve been begging for since 2024. Have any of you ever accepted a counter-offer from your current employer and actually stayed happy?
Today a patient asked my coworkers and I if it was crazy outside around here because of the Knicks parade today, and I told him that we wouldn't know...because we haven't been outside since our lunch breaks hours ago, if that. It was such a real moment, like we have no idea what's going on outside on our block because we are strapped to our desks and on the clock for endless hours! Have you had any similar conversations with patients that kind of break the fourth wall like that?
Is AI actually saving anyone time? Our facility started using AI to draft our clinical summaries and documentation notes, and it feels incredibly dystopian. The software listens to the patient interaction and automatically populates the chart, but it constantly misses context or uses phrasing that sounds like a corporate robot wrote it. I find myself spending more time editing the smart note to make it accurate than I would have spent just typing it myself.
Sometimes I feel jealous of my friends who are teachers because they get summers off. I know they work all the time during the school year but at least they know there is a “reset” each year. Meanwhile in healthcare it is unrelenting. Which would you prefer?
Looking for advice! I became a certified phlebotomist in February but every job wants 1–2 years of experience. I’ve applied to LifeSouth, Quest, Red Cross, hospitals, and even jobs 1.5 hours away with no luck. How is anyone supposed to gain experience if no one will hire them? I’ve even gone back to school for my EKG and CCMA certifications. Any advice on getting that first opportunity would mean a lot!
