As a grocery clerk you work on a team in a hands-on role to ensure the grocery store/supermarket has the products available for customer purchase in a friendly and safe environment. You are the initial point of contact for a diverse customer base in addressing questions about the location of items in the store (ranging from food to paper products to sundry items which varies from store to store). The ability to effectively communicate with customers is key. Additionally, you are a part of a team of clerks who are responsible for stocking and restocking shelves throughout your shift which requires getting additional items from the backroom should the shelves not have items available. Stocking and restocking shelves with products requires the ability to lift boxes in excess of 40 pounds and safely move a warehouse rolling cart through the aisles of the store.
You would be responsible for ensuring shelves are organized with product labels front facing and ordered neatly so customers are able to quickly see the items. Attention to detail is key to make sure that the correct products have the correct pricing sticker and/or label on the shelf. Restocking shelves may or may not occur during daytime hours and could be, depending on store policy, be something that occurs on an overnight shift. In the support of other grocery store employees (such as the cashier) you may be asked to assist in the check-out process helping with bagging groceries and assisting customers with moving bags into their vehicles.
