Pros

good salary good holiday package- 28 days very nice/modern offices free beer great retreats/parties smart people

Cons

difficulty to progress career wise internal politics non trustworthy and very harsh senior management- known to show lack of professionalism at times and cross the line in treatment of employees admin inefficient business dodgy internal practices bad treatment of clients culture does not live up to expectations, - it exists more for show/recruitment purposes (and to win awards). Senior management very much contradict company values in their behaviour many employees complain of being bullied by senior management- which can be extremely damaging to employee self esteem very high turnover of employees- no one seems to stay here very long

I’m sorry that you didn’t feel you were able to progress at Rockpool. We have a strong belief that’s it better to promote from within and develop people already in the business. However, we also believe it’s important for people to gain the right experience before being progressed, and sometimes you need to bring in a fresh set of eyes. As you say, we’ve certainly had some challenges with attrition within the last 12 months within one of our teams. I’m pleased to say that we’ve learned from that experience and are building a team with the right level of support around it.

Pros

Decent work-life balance. Friendly people on the whole. Cake. Hilariously poorly judged moments like the below.

Cons

Indignant senior management with no self-reflexivity and little appetite for change (apart from processes). Control freak MD, and huge staff turnover accross both offices - 50% in 12 months. Good big name clients but small projects mostly in systems integration.

Thanks for your feedback. We’re doing everything we can to collect and act on feedback. For the last two years we’ve used the independent Best Companies survey that allows employees to anonymously provide feedback on the company and management. In both years we’ve been ranked in the Sunday Times top 100 companies in the UK. This year we’re using the independent Great Places to Work survey to try and collect even more anonymous insight from employees on their experience of working at Rockpool. We want to attract the best people and create an amazing environment for them to do great work. We as a company and me as an individual don’t always get it right, but our motivation is be a great employer and we’ll continue to strive towards that.

Pros

Pretty much every employee is unhappy working here so at least you won't be alone in your misery!

Cons

Too many to write here but I will give you an overview: Extreme & heavily monitored time logging. Solo planning & time forecasting of work based off murky UI requirements, to be completed within strict & inflexible time boxes. Top-down culture of working late into the evenings and always being available. 'No one has a boss' is a recruitment lie - the CEO is your boss, the heavy micro-management type. Stressed and upset employees who constantly fear the next outburst from the CEO, leading to scrum masters who can't push back or protect the dev teams, instead acting as a channel to amplify the pressure coming from the top. Long-term female employee forced out after going part time due to becoming a mother. No internal HR to protect employees from unfair treatment at work. Perks seem to be a smokescreen to disguise the reality of the unpleasantness of working here. Very high turnover rate of devs - being there for a year plus is a rarity.
