Pros

Experience, with the experience I gained working at Marcus Evans has helped me to move on to bigger and better things.

Cons

The company culture is toxic, senior management do not care about you, which is the main reason why staff turnover is so ridiculously high, in a year I have seen over 70 employees come and go! The pay is poor unless you make huge deals every month, £650 a month is not enough to live on especially in London. Moreover, any months you do not make deals you end up being paid a top up loan so that you receive minimum wage. The loan is taken out of your salary when you make a certain amount of commission (which they never reveal in the interview). Additionally, the office politics that occur is damaging to junior staff as some staff end up with horrible products which they end up selling for free. There is a lot of favouritism that goes on, management is weak and incapable of dealing with disputes that occur between staff. The office is outdated, with 5 computers (only 4 actually work) between 30-40 staff is appalling. Waiting 15 minutes to send emails to clients is shocking, not to mention the printers are outdated and get stuck if you try to print more than 3 sheets of paper. The kitchen has no microwave facilities, the telephone systems are constantly breaking down and need regular maintenance. The carpets are rotting and stained, I have seen mice in the office, and traps are laid under computers and in corners. The products that Marcus Evans sell are mixed, those who are favoured by senior management get better products. Sales reps often have to lie in order to speak to clients as Marcus Evans has a bad reputation especially in the banking world. Senior management actively look to swindle their clients. There was a case where a conference was cancelled and one delegate arrived at the venue from overseas, without realising that the conference was cancelled just an example of poor business practice that occurs. Work life balance is poor as a lot of people take up second jobs just to make ends meet. Leaving them little or no time to lead search or attend the after work drinks or parties. You are required to wear a suit and tie every day with an occasional dress down Friday option.

Thank you for taking the time to review your experiences at marcus evans. It's clear that you are feeling angry about this period of your career. I'm sorry to hear that. It's not our intention at all and continues to be disappointing that we identify candidates that we feel have potential and then we get that wrong. You will see in my other responses to various reviews, I often reference my surprise at how people who launch a considerably lengthy and negative review towards the company also make statements that create a strong imbalance in their thoughts. What I mean by this? You state in the pros 'Experience ... with the experience I gained working at Marcus Evans... has helped me to move on to bigger and better things'. For me, this is a fantastic outcome for you that has come as a direct result of working with us. So many people leave the company they work for - and far too many people just sit tight - no richer for their experiences. But this hasn't been the case for you at all. So then it becomes a question of whether your statement 'Horrible Company - STAY AWAY' is really a fair one? I'd say it's not fair. If marcus evans is so horrible then why did you stay with us for so long? So many people write reviews as if they are forced to come to work. Coming to work is a choice. Your choice. You kept making that choice more than 350 times over. You state 'the pay is poor unless you make deals'. But this is the nature of our company for people in sales roles. You would not have been told that we work on high basic and low commission because we don't. High basic provides no motivation to drive sales. That's harsh, but the cornerstone of so many sales roles not just those at marcus evans. In my experience, the people who complain about the low basic are those who haven't been able to sell our products. They haven't had what it takes. It's not an easy sell, we know that. Only the best succeed. The ones who can't blame everything other than themselves. There's a clear pattern. In terms of turnover - What we do is provide opportunity. Unlike many companies, we look for attitude - not degrees, or experience. We want winners. We care enough to give people a massive opportunity to show what they're made of. But if you're not showing what you're made of, despite world-class sales training - how long can we continue to care. How do you define care? Should we overlook the fact that someone can't sell? That doesn't make business sense. We care if you care. If you care, you follow the formula and succeed. It's that simple and that complicated. As you've raised many points that I've addressed already in other reviews as well as some that I need to do some further investigation on, I'd invite you to contact me directly RuthA@marcusevanscy.com so we can have a discussion on all of the remaining points in your review. I'm happy to provide a follow up response on the basis of that call. Wishing you continued success in whatever you're doing now.

Pros

I started at Marcus Evans Group in 2017 as a 22 year old kid, and left of my own volition during the peak of covid due to how it impacted the in person summit business model. I worked in Delegate Acquisition (DA) in the downtown Chicago office. I've now been at 4 companies in my career, and Marcus Evans is by far the best. First of all, it's challenging. If you are afraid to cold call, stay away. Having said that, the sales training here is superb. Whenever I interviewed for other jobs, they were always massively impressed by my time at ME group. The firm has a reputation for crafting excellent sellers through a well thought out process. This company looks great on your resume. Secondly, the opportunity for advancement is unparalleled. The org cares about one thing above all else; PERFORMANCE. If you perform, you can achieve incredible career growth. From my first job out of college, I was promoted 4 times to the point where I had a team of about 5 people under me. I learned how to pitch, how to lead a team, and how to build value with C-Level executives at major organizations. Enjoy travel? You will have the chance to attend summits in legit 5 star hotels and resorts around the country in places like LA, Las Vegas, Boston, Palm Beach and more. You get a real taste of international business. I worked mainly on the investment themed programs, where I was made the lead of a real estate focused event worth million of dollars... At the age of 24. You need to lean in. If you're smart, hard working, creative, and a bit ruthless, you will make real money here and experience tremendous personal / professional development. Once you prove yourself you will be given the chance to impact the direction of the business at the highest levels, providing insights and feedback to the CEO. I cannot stress enough how much you can grow in all areas at this company. As far as networking, you will become a trusted advisor the the C - Level leaders of fortune 1000 companies. I also forged incredible friendships, several of whom I still see on a regular basis. The people here are smart and interesting. It's a super diverse company with offices all over the world including folks from all sorts of countries and backgrounds in the Chicago office.

Cons

The main draw backs are: 1. Relatively low base salary. I believe some progress has been made on this since I left a few years ago, but this is a company for people who plan to perform and make a lot of money from commissions and bonus incentives. 2. OLD SCHOOL. This is a traditional British firm. The tech stack is quite outdated. The good news is that software / SRM obsessed processes do not get in your way. 3. No remote work. It's pretty much 5 days a week in the office.
