Pros

This is an agency that cares about and for people. There is utmost respect for the people we serve and the agency truly does support the ideal of helping people live in a world where they feel a sense of belonging and empowerment. As a staff member, I always feel supported, valued and appreciated by my immediate supervisors and the leadership team of the agency. I have been encouraged and supported in growing in my profession and developing my skills. My experience has consistently been that administration adheres to high ethical standards of practice. I can't imagine doing this job anywhere else and feeling the same level of commitment and care from my employer.

Cons

As a non-profit, there is a great deal of dependance on funding streams (the state, Medicaid, etc) that don't often provide adequate funding to support the important and hard work that people do in this agency. I know that Racker does as much as they can to provide better pay and benefits, but overall the field of human services tends to be lower paying, unfortunately.

Pros

Some of the best reasons to work at Racker are the consumers. They were the reason I went to work every day, not the company. Not my job, the consumers. They gave me a purpose and a reason for being here. I loved them more than anything!

Cons

The cons are numerous, unfortunately. There's a lot of work to be done in the evening. Showers, laundry, daily notes, meds, etc. And when you get paired with lazy staff, it's awful. So it's not all the work that's the con. It's getting paired with the lazy staff. And it seems like there are more lazy people than good people there. Which sucks. Plus staff could be really inappropriate with one another. And I was fired for something I didn't even do! Not only that, but I wasn't even questioned about it! They put me and another girl out on leave for a week. And then call us in, and fired us. We never got to speak or anything. I actually should have sued them. But I found a really good job, a better job with unity house.Because I told them my story and they took a chance on me. And the worst thing of all was when a consumer got severely injured, because two staff were too busy talking instead of keeping an eye on him, like they were supposed to be doing! I'm glad the state came in! We needed that! Finally! Some order around there!
