Pros

- Entry level hires hit the ground running - Regular interfacing with upper management - Broad industry coverage affords versatile experience to new hires - Portfolio of businesses continues to grow, remain versatile - Small office resulted in relatively enjoyable day-to-days, healthy interactions with staff

Cons

- Company culture not terribly inclusive, difficult to navigate for newcomers compared to much of agency (>3 years experience @ firm) - Work regularly marred by miscommunication regarding deliverables - Chain of command extremely foggy, fluid at times, resulting in disconnect between management and staff - Professed availability of support regarding workload rarely translates to reality - Unprofessional and personally detached management style of certain VPs led to absurdly poor oversight, erroneously blamed mistakes, etc - Minimal opportunities for growth in what is a high-turnover industry - Disorganized on the virtue of the firm's impressive client growth; biting off more than one can chew - Regularly fragmented client teams rarely targeted for external oversight regarding supervisor, VP practice (leading to immediate lack of cohesion regarding work, team interaction) - Extremely anemic benefits, compensation package

Pros

Group Gordon is a special place. The firm invests significant resources into its hiring process to ensure that the team is full of rising PR stars who are as warm and collaborative as they are driven and ambitious. Leaving the GG family was not an easy decision. The expectation is that everyone hired will be a contributor on day one. Employees are quickly worked into playing significant roles on their accounts or on their team within the firm. The firm most frequently hires at entry level and promotes from within, creating natural opportunities for growth. Work product across the firm is exceptional - each team member is fully engaged in and motivated by their work to advance the goals and missions of their clients. And as generalist firm with a wide variety of corporate and nonprofit clients, the learning opportunities are limitless. I couldn't think of a better environment in which to build a career in PR. What's more, working at Group Gordon is a ton of fun. The team plays as hard as it works. Office happy hours, birthday celebrations, trivia nights, a dodgeball/flip cup team, an annual "PR Olympics" competition in the office, summer/holiday parties, etc. Interpersonal conflict in the office is rare and the team genuinely enjoys spending time together. My years at the firm yielded several lifelong friendships. I would recommend Group Gordon to anyone beginning a career in communications.

Cons

Only the typical drawbacks of working at a small firm and at an agency: everyone pitches in on admin tasks, the workload can be intense at times, there can be a steep initial learning curve.
