Pros

Head Office - fellow staff are very friendly and welcoming people, willing to help when needed.

Cons

Absolutely every project whether minor or major is slowed down by unnecessary bureaucracy, therefore the organization's internal progression is almost non-existent. Most of the time you will find yourself looking for work to do, and if you have done any work, you will be waiting long times for someone else to do their job so that a project can proceed. Not to mention reckless spending of government funds to cater to higher management's peeves.

Pros

Being operational, you get to make huge differences in people's lives, which is hugely rewarding. Our Chief Fire Officer has led from the front in promoting a healthy culture. Where standards have slipped to below acceptable, there has been a proactive response. Improving visible diversity across all levels is one of our priorities and progress is being made to support increasing levels of diversity at all levels.

Cons

Visiable diversity at all levels is not where I would like it to be. When people picture the role of Station Manager, it is unlikely they would picture someone like me as I'm the only non-white face. I'm confident that over the next 10 years, the landscape of diversity will change to ensure we have a good level of visible diversity.
