Pros
If you are looking for a chaotic job environment that is constantly in flux, passive aggressive micro managers, and more busy work than you can shake a stick at, you may want to apply here. This is the definition of a stepping stone job. You will get paid, work with some of the sharpest staff around, gain experience working with members of the public, get exposure to community leaders, and put any public speaking skills you have to good use/learn how to speak to a room full of people. Management is not as politically well-connected as they would have you believe. You will be praised while on stage and around the public, and you will develop a thick skin to criticism and ineffective management while behind closed doors--see cons.
Cons
This company is mostly funded by contracted projects so your position may not be included in the budget 5 years from now. Extremely high staff turn-over. Management gets personally offended when an employee resigns, going as far as to block employment opportunities for suspected deserters. Constant rotation in staff and management makes it impossible to get a grip on expectations and responsibilities. Because the staff is so small, your mistakes will be chastised by the highest level of management while your successes may be attributed to lower level managers. Management uses budget and regional payment trends as an excuse to keep wages low, but the top manager gets paid a Los Angeles level salary.
