Pros

This review is from a field nurse perspective working from a home office with only email/phone communication to corporate office in New Jersey. I worked for Basic Home Infusion 6.5 years. I worked in Full Time, Part Time and PRN capacity, as well as promoted and served as a District Manager for 2 years. Pros include: Flexible work schedule. Above average work/life balance (as an RN, not DM). Autonomous work environment. Slightly above average pay rates. The service that BHI provides is needed and appreciated by their patients.

Cons

Four years ago I would have given BHI a 5 star review, it's currently at 2 stars. In an attempt to give a fair and accurate review, I gave a 3 star average. I watched BHI deteriorate over the years. Communication, Competency, Professionalism, Accountability, Respect and Efficiency are at an all time low. Suggestions to upper management for improvements are frowned upon. Policy and Procedures change frequently. You will be expected to use your personal cell phone without reimbursement. You will be written up frequently for minor issues that you may have not been trained on correctly, may not have encountered before or simply were unaware the policy had changed. Field RNs will be expected to find their own coverage before vacation days can be used. Delays in medication/supply delivery, human errors, and frequent miscommunications are part of the everyday work environment. Senior management becomes aggressive and childish when faced with opposition. Your job will be used as leverage if you express an opinion. You will be labeled as insubordinate if you try to challenge a policy. Problem identification and resolution are low priority. Your job description can and will change with a mere phone call, which may even include the addition of sales and marketing. You could be required to maintain and/or grow your own patient census. No professional training or development offered. Training and education will be minimal, if any. Extensive travel required, some days totaling 7 or 8 hours behind the steering wheel and then be expected to reply to emails and complete charting before the day's end. You will not be paid mileage for the first 50 miles of every day. Benefit package is below average. In Summary, if you have the ability to keep a low profile, tolerate unprofessionalism and inefficiencies, adapt easily to change, can let things roll off, can keep your cool in a war zone, work well alone, can provide safe nursing care with little to no support and you have extra thick elephant skin .....you might have a successful career with BHI. You may love your job for a while, you may even get promoted and you may find yourself buying Christmas presents at a truck stop.
