InSound Medical is into making sounds heard. The company develops hearing devices made for continuous wear and that cannot be seen when used. Unlike conventional hearing aids, InSound Medical's devices are fitted into the ear by an audiology professional and worn continuously, even during sleeping or swimming. Customers pay for a year's worth of devices (a "subscription") and return every two to four months for replacements when the batteries wear out. The FDA-approved Lyric was introduced in 2008 and is marketed to younger consumers with mild to moderate hearing loss. InSound Medical was acquired by Sonova in 2010.
