a family have 2 kids. if you have seen 1 girl , what is the proberbl the other kids is a boy

10 Answers

chainsaw is right - the question is subtle. Outcome space is (b1,b2), (b1,g2), (g1,b2) and (g1,g2). Now - if you HAVE SEEN the girl (specific girl let's say girl 1) that removes outcomes (b1,b2)&(b1,g2) leaving us with p=1/2 of choice between outcomes (g1,b2) and (g1,g2). If you KNOW (was told) that one is a girl, but do not know which one, than only (b1,b2) is removed from outcome space and the chance is 2/3. Less

answer is 1/2 - the question is very subtle...

isnt it 1/2? BG (boy and girl) and GB (girl and boy) are the same. order is not important. or am i missing something? Less

Less

Are you willing to work 80 hours a week?

6 Answers

I just got hired there as a bra, easily willing to work the 80 hours. Never saw a company that treats you with so much respect and trust right out of the gate. Also spend a lot of money per employee in technology which most people don't know and don't care about. I know and appreciate it as even if a company has the money, most won't spend it. Deloitte realizes their people are their biggest asset. Less

It depends on a person to person - if a resource is efficient and having skill to automate, the 16 hour work for a normal resource can be done in less than 8 hours ! Less

No, I am not interested in working for a company that doesn't value life/work balance. Thank you for your time and good day. Less

WHAT IS YOUR AGE??? - A totally prohibited ground in HR context.

5 Answers

Look at the question: "What is your age?" That's different from "How old are you?" Answer accordingly. Less

I was asked this question by the CEO of a company during my telephonic interview. Even though I didn't ask, told me his age. That just seemed weird and not very professional. This wasn't Deloitte. Less

So many ways to find this information - in a, sort of, sneaky way. Has no-one noticed that now you not only being asked for your degrees but what year you obtained them - easy enough to extrapolate in the majority of cases... Less

This question came up in the set venn diagram test. Out of 120 students, those with ID's that are even numbers are doing Physics, and all with ID's divisible by 5 are doing Chemistry, and all with ID's divisible by 7 are doing Maths. How many are doing Physics AND Maths? How many are doing Maths and Chemistry? How many are doing neither subject? etc..

5 Answers

This last method is simpler, thanks

How you did that??? I'm so confused with all these maths. Any help???

Assuming the ID's range from 1-120: Number of students taking Physics: 60 (there are 60 numbers between 1-120 that are divisible by 2) Chemistry: 24 (only 24 numbers between 1-120 that are divisible by 5) Maths: 17 Physics and Chemistry: 12 Physics and Maths: 8 Chemistry and Maths: 2 All three subjects: 1 Less

The most unexpected question was how they knew they could trust me to learn the system after my training elsewhere.

5 Answers

Although I told them that I always devoted myself to everything, they demanded proof. I pointed to my references and told them that, if they wanted proof, it could be found there. Less

This is not a question I have used but the question is logical and leads to a simple response to speak about a time when you were confronted by a difficult or overwhelming learning opportunity. I certainly would not recommend passing that opportunity to stand out on to your interviewer and/or references. I'd be remiss if I didn't address the disparaging remarks about our development team. Not that it is necessary for management because both management and our development team members have an excellent relationship and utmost respect for each other and all parties know this to be untrue. Our developers are very hard working and have produced a half dozen new products and hundreds of smaller enhancements this year alone. These and others are selling very well in our markets allowing us to hire on many more new employees this year than ever before. We like our developers to be free to innovate on their schedule so we work with them on flexible hours and our most of our developers enjoy coffee so many days we hold our daily sprint meetings to discuss current projects at a coffee shop. I hope this addresses all of the concerns but if not my door is always open to discuss any concerns or ideas. Regards, John Less

Developers at CE are required to work 24/7 & for anyone to say that they're "flexible" is a flat out lie. Yes, they typically leave for coffee in the morning & are gone for about an hour. They also take frequent breaks throughout the day but when you have such a poor work/life balance, I see nothing wrong with that. Just know that when your phone rings at 4am, you better be ready... and it happens more often than any of them will ever admit. The horrible bags under their eyes will say more than anything I write here. The CE developers are also not very welcoming when someone needs clarification on something and god forbid you question what they're doing. They could care less about the "minions" around them so the defensive response above is not surprising. The "founding" developers have a lot of respect for each other and are very protective of their department but unfortunately they haven't been able to successfully bring in someone new from the outside to join the team... If you aren't being promoted to the department from within the company, assume that you won't be a good fit for them. They're more concerned with finding the next big thing that they can brag about to clients than they are with fixing the products that they already have.... it looks better for the company if they have cool new (glitchy) toys to purchase but how about that calendar or the directory or the articles or the editor or site statistics or anything else that their own clients have desperately begged to be reworked for the past 10 years? No, instead members can now submit food orders through their phones. Great work. The reviews on this company speak for themselves. Less

“Imagine that you have three boxes, one containing two black marbles, one containing two white marbles, and the third, one black marble and one white marble. The boxes were labeled for their contents - BB, WW, BW - but someone has switched the labels so that every box is now incorrectly labeled. You are allowed to take one marble at a time out of any box, without looking inside, and by this process of sampling you are to determine the contents of all three boxes. What is the smallest number of drawings needed to do this?”

4 Answers

The key thing here is that the box does not contain what it says on the label. As such you can guarantee the contents of each box with one draw. Here's how: Draw a marble from the box labeled BW (since it is labeled BW it must be either BB or WW) If you draw a white for example you know 100% that it is the WW box. Then there are only two boxes left labeled WW and BB in this example and the only two things that they can be are BB or BW. The box labeled BB cannot be BB and so hence must be the BW. This leaves the box labeled WW to be BB by elimination. Same thing works if you pick a black marble first. The key is picking from the BW box in the start and confirming what it actually is. One draw is the smallest number needed. Less

Four. If you draw a white bead, then draw out of another box. If you draw a white bead from box 2, then draw from either box 1 or box 2 to discern the identity of all 3. If you draw a black bead on your second draw (box 2), then you will need at most two more draws to discern the identity of all three. Knowing the color of one bead from all three boxes doesn't allow us to label all 3 correctly, so in the scenario where we draw a white bead from box 1 and a black bead from box 2, picking from box 3 doesn't do us any good. To solve this problem, we need to find BW in a box and any other bead, or we need to know the location of all three beads of a single color Less
