      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at YipitData in Nov 2020

      Interview

Pretty easy, standard interviewing process. I was initially contacted by YipitData’s HR about a week after submitting my application online. The first communication was setting up the interview with the hiring manager. The initial interview with the hiring manager lasted for a total of 30 minutes. It was a pretty laid back and pleasant interview. The conversation sparked excitement at the thought of working at YipitData. During this interview I was asked pretty straightforward questions. After this initial phase, I was given an assignment and 1 week to complete it. The assignment was much, much more involved than I had initially anticipated but since I enjoy a challenge I took it head-on. I stayed up long hours at night making sure that what I was submitting was high quality and something I would be proud presenting to YipitData. After submitting the assignment, I had the second call with the hiring manager in which I went over the assignment. This call lasted 30 minutes also. Now, this is when disappointment started setting in. A week after this call, I received the dreaded email of “unfortunately, we have decided not to proceed with your candidacy.” In the email it stated that the hiring manager was very impressed with my analytical skills but he ultimately decided to go with other candidates who had stronger background experience. This is perfectly fine as not 100% of the interviews I have will lead to an offer letter; however, what I have a problem with is the fact that I spent numerous hours just to be told that my background is not enough. My background was always there on my resume from the get-go. I went over it with the hiring manager twice in two different occasions on two separate phone calls just to be told that it was not enough after spending long hours working on the assignment. Incredibly disappointed as I feel like I wasted a lot of my time completing the assignment that ultimately led nowhere. You can do better Yipit! What YipitData needs to do is not hand out such involved analytical exercises that take countless hours to complete and ultimately reject a candidate due to perceived lack of background experience. Make sure you truly vet candidates on their background and past experience. Make sure that they have what you’re looking for, then hand out the week-long assignment as a final step to weed out the ones who do not have the analytical skills. Last thing you want to do is waste people’s time. - An incredibly disappointed candidate

I applied online. I interviewed at YipitData in Dec 2020

      Interview

Interview process is pretty thorough and the team puts in a good amount of time to get to know you and your background. There was also an assignment that's a part of the interview process that revolves around a potential task you would tackle in the role. Throughout the course of the interview process I met around 8 members of the team. While the process can seem lengthly, I appreciated it as a candidate because I got to meet with many people from the team and I also had to ability to ask as many questions as I needed to.
